Are you using a lot of plugins? These are very often the culprit and some are very heavy on resources and are worse than others.

Disable any you absolutely don't need and see if things speed up at all.

Plugins -- start there. I've worked on small and busy (20M+ pv). In nearly every case, I found that plugins tend to cause the issue.

I highly recommend deleting -- not just disabling plugins that are not absolutely required for your site.

Also, do not use plugins when simple code inclusions via functions.php will do. Many JS, tracking and other items can be added with hooks in functions.php with the plugin overhead.

    You can use tools like
    http://webpagetest.org

    To help identify the issue.

Lastly, keep in mind that site design often has a greater impact that your hosting situation. A slow server is certainly a problem but a fast server will not help a site with 150 HTTP requests, 20 CSS files and 10 blocking JS files.

    Hello,

Speeding up WordPress website totally depends upon the coding used in it at the website back end as it plays a very crucial role. So, in this case it would be great if you can share the website you want to speed up so as to help you out with best suggestions and a maximum output.

Lots of ways to speed up the site as other posters mentioned. However, I saw the largest boost when I switched to better hosting. When I was on shared hosting my average was about 4 seconds (some days would even be 5-7 seconds) . After the switch, my average is now down to 1.5 seconds.

Are you o9n VPS or shared hosting? If you're on shared hosting, moving to a VPS with good configurations will speed up your site. I used this service and my site now loads under 3 seconds.

I've used this plugin for my sites: https://srd.wordpress.org/plugins/p3-profiler/

It shows you which plugins take a lot of time to load. Great way to check if some plugins are taking very long to load and if they could be replaced with similar plugin which is faster.

    Here is an example report:

The WordPress theme you are using also matters.
Certain themes are slow to load no matter the plugin used to accelerate it.

    W3 Total Cache?

Before speed up you have to know what happens and why.

Use sites like www.gtmetrix.com or https://tools.pingdom.com/ and of course https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/

Analyze first. Indeed a lot of plugins can cause your site is slow, but also your hosting, your template. your images..all!

Let me know if this helps

I totally agree with this opinion :'Wordpress Plugins are basic one, host your site under high quality hosting provider's servers, which can hold even high traffic on your site. high speed and reliable network line. sign up with the host who provide CDN to speed up the site loading time. I use Scopehsots SSD Shared hosting plan, Site loads quite fast'.

W3 Total Cache fixed loading time problems on my old wordpress site. If that's doesn't improve performance and you've ruled out all plugins then the likely culprit is your hosting provider.

Use Wpsmush when uploading images and ewwww optimizer for existing images. Use a cache plugin like W3, minify HTML, CSS and JS.

Use google and pingdom to check speed after you do this steps.

To be honest, i have tried many plugins to speed up my Wordpress Websites, but i like "W3 Total Cache" the most. Easy to install and use.

I have tried to study about its working also - and found - > "A caching plugin stores the images, CSS, and Javascript files of your website on the server, so it doesn’t have to load the website from scratch and every time you receive a visitor, instead the static version of your site is displayed. This saves a lot of resources and works with any type of website."

So i believe this is best. Some other alternatives are:

    WP Sumsh.it
    P3 Profiler

    Thanks

For speeding up the WordPress website, its necessary to have a great hosting provider as well... I've been using Bluehost with caching plugins etc.i, andI was getting 5sec loading time... but thanks to my friend he suggested me to choose cloud hosting and test out the speed and result, then I switched my hosting from Bluehost to cloudways... and installed a plugin called WP Rocket & believe it or not but getting 2sec. Loading time now
