Wha..? Website address problem...

Sorry about the vague title, but didn't know how to sum up my prob.

Everything is fine with my website when I got to a page like this: http://www.mywebsite.com/page1.html (not really my site)

HOWEVER, it gets weird when I put the following in: http://www.mywebsite.com/page1.html/

(I've just added a backslash at the end).

Instead of the page that is supposed to appear, I get an old page that shouldn't be there anymore. When I add the backslash to any page, I get that crappy page. I guess the file for that page still exists on the server.

I really want to change this asap -- I may have links out there that are bringing people to this page instead of where they're supposed to go!

    Maybe it's your cache?
Do you get this same problem when you access your website from another computer?

If you can't find it on the server, it's got to be in your browser cache.

If the page does exist on the server, why not get rid of it?

I will try clearing the cache tonight. I did a "delete everything" in Firefox's history, but that didn't help.

If the file exists on my server, I wouldn't know where to find it. I'm not sure if I conveyed this accurately, but the problem is that if you add a backslash to the end of any page on the site, it shows up as the unwanted page.

If you add a backslash at the end of http://www.mysite.com/indexpage1.html/ then you are telling the browser to look in that directory and retrieve an index.php or index.html file. If the browser can't find it, then you will get a 404 error page.

You can specify a specific 404 error page to appear that tells visitors where to go within your website. This can usually be done within Cpanel, depending on your server configuration.

If it were me, and this was an actual page on the server that I couldn't locate, I'd delete all of the site files on the server, then type an address (with the ending slash) into the browser. It should come up empty. Then just FTP all of the files back.

Also, sometimes just hitting the refresh might pull up your new page.
The old site info could be being pulled from your cache.
