I am in the process of building my first site. should a meta tag description be different for each page of my web-site or not?

I am also interested in knowing how should I better name my web-pages. For example: the title of one of the pages is " listening comprehension". How should I name my page html file: listeningcomprehension, listening-comprehension, listening-comprehension etc. From the point of good SEO, what version is better and why?

personally i always try and make my description unique - i also make it call to action and keep it less than 155 characters, its this wording that is usually displayed under your page title in the google serps

as for your pages i would do listening-comprehension.html as it makes it a human friendly url as well search engine friendly

trial and error on your own part will naturally let you focus on what works best for you and everyone to their own but thats how i like to do my sites and it works well for me

    chickentulip,

Meta tag should be different but not totally, it would be best to overlap each other. In that way you create authority and credibility.

about the meta tags i give it more important then anything ..i noted it is even more important some time then backlinks..

you can put up to 60 keywords in your title..keep each description according to title.
use Google webmaster tool its best to suggest what you should use and what should be skipped.
