My Very First Website

Hey all,

I was wondering what you guys have to say about my first website.

allthecoolest.com

I'm doing my best to write long, detailed articles. I've been using the yoast plug-in, and I am ranking for some keywords.

I have had a few hundred hits, as well as a few clicks on my affiliate links, but no sales yet. Should I put my affiliate links in different places?

Any other constructive criticism or advice?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Its quite ok.

Your top menu is not readable. I have to do mouseover to see the text.

Make the width wider and also change the background.

    Best of luck. Cheers!

I had no problem reading the menu in my browser.
Even I had no problem reading the menu.

I am talking about the TOP most menu which has 3 empty boxes.
    About contact privacy.
These can be read only after a mouseover

Btw my browsers are Chrome & IE

Honestly the menu bar could look a lot better. For example you could make it bigger initially and then as the user scrolls down it could contract into something more compact.

Personally I would make the navbar 100% wide and lose the blue text color. Have you tried using white? You could use blue only for currently active links.

    Here's an example:

You should also start thinking about how the menu will look once you start adding more and more links to it.

Have you taken a closer look into how your competitor does business? (Shut Up And Take My Money - Cool Gadgets and Geeky Products) you can find a lot of useful ideas simply by browsing that site.

Make sure to use Facebook's open graph (I think Yoast has this anyway) to get the most out of social sharing.

Don't even think about making a sale right now because you'll just get disappointed very fast. Your current goal should be to get your website out into the masses. Get people sharing it and keep posting more weird/cool stuff!

Every once in a while you can find a thread for "do want items" on 4chan (don't judge) and you could post your product pictures there with a small watermark at the bottom of every photo. If the item is crazy enough, people will save it to their computer and will share your watermarked photo later on.

    Hello.
The layout of your website looks a bit cluttered. You might want to rearrange some of the elements of your website. I also suggest that you make the logo of your website a little bit bigger. I also suggest that you think of an accent color so that your website won't looked washed.

I would say you should use better color combination so that people can read and see your website properly and without any problem. You should optimize images to load faster too.

Would you possibly have any recommendations for wordpress plug-ins to optimize my images?

The site is currently 3 months old but I literally work 60 hours a week at my current job.

I work on it as much as I can in my very limited time, but my competitors drop 4 articles a DAY.

My site doesn't really have a good keyword to revolve around either, organic traffic has been extremely difficult to get. Its very hard to categorize what allthecoolest.com is, because I've made it about "cool stuff" which isn't really considered a category.

In three months, as of today, I've had 60 total clicks on my affiliate links, and a big fat GOOSE EGG on conversions..

Its the journey, not the destination right? Haha

Congratulations on you first Web site

You could also use newsletters. Provide people with a catalog of your goods and interesting and entertaining posts. If you help it become really interesting and entertaining, more and more people will sign up for your newsletter and recommend it with other individuals. The more people who symptoms up for your newsletter, the more people you will see that will go to your site increasing your traffic.

Another great concept is trading links with other sites. You don’t need to pay out a cent. All you need to do is attain a binding agreement with another webmaster. With exchanging links, the efforts both sites do will advantage each sites. Each traffic that will go to the site may potentially simply click the link of one's own site and see your site as well. This functions well particularly when both sites feature the exact same niche.

What I like about it most is it's unique. With so many websites out right now that look and read the same, this site stands out in every way. Yes it's a product site and there are thousands of product sites, but even the products are unique. It looks like it was designed by a professional.

      Hey Andrea Taylor,

I am using the Splash Theme by mythemeshop.com for my Word Press website.

I have contacted mythemeshop.com twice on two separate occasions and they responded to me BOTH times within a half an hour.

I am very satisfied with the customer service from them, and I pride myself on having very high standards.

There are quite a few options to customize this theme how I want to, and I have hardly any coding experience so its been incredibly helpful for a beginner like me.

      Hey Bingout,

Its going GREAT! Finally have had some successes. Yes it is picking up, i'm starting to make sales every day/ couple of days. My Amazon commission rate has jumped this month already.

I'm currently working on adding more content, but simplifying the layout. I had quite a few extra things and widgets to click on my site, and I decided to try a much simpler approach to the layout.

A recurring thing people kept saying to me was that it looked like an online store, which is not what it is. I would classify it as a review site.

To help fix this, today in fact I made an actual landing page for AllTheCoolest that I will be monitoring very closely using the SumoMe plugin.

try working with MENU maybe use some of your menu as submenu. You should also setup theme to show minimum of 7 post in the main page or more. Add more at widget are maybe facebook LIKE box , add social slide sharing widget at the right or left side, this helps user to share your post and pages. After all it's ok they way you have deigned your site, well done :-)

Firstly, I will suggest you to remove the weird background image and try to go 100% width of your browser but the text will be in a grid system. To maintain grid system you can use Bootstrap but as a very fast website it is awesome work! Keep it up.
