Hello,

New to WARRIOR FORUM and have question for pros here.

I am thinking to building business / classifieds directory for my local city.

There are so many options to choose from when it comes to this. Wordpress (themes) or go with stand-alone software package.

On the WP side... I see a lot of discussion with regards to Templatic and AITthemes.

Can anyone guide me in this? Anyone use either of the two companies above?

Are there better stand-alone software packages that beat out WP themes?

I am looking to host myself vs something like what Brilliant Directories offers

    Wordpress has soooooo many themes to choose from both free and premium; not to mention many many useful plugins. With Wordpress there is no need for stand alone software. You are just starting and Wordpress eliminates the need to pay a web designer. They can be very expensive and you will need to also pay them to maintain or update or change the site, which also gets pricey. Wordpress has so many options, you can tweak eat or update your site with ease. In addition, the learning curve is not as challenging as learning web design. Many many many websites and blogs are Wordpress themes. When in doubt go to YouTube with your Wordpress design questions, and most of the time there are several videos that resolve your issues or addresses your questions.

    Take a look at Vantage by Appthemes. It's been around for several years. I used another their theme (Classipress) and it's pretty good.
