WordPress vs Wix (or other Website Builder) To Build Site - Your Opinion?

Technology changes so fast that on occasion I like to take a break from building sites with WordPress and check out what the rest of the planet is using to build their online businesses.

Wix just caught my attention when I found out that it has over 100 million users now!

So I did some research, and wrote my thoughts in this article, WordPress vs Wix | How to build a great website in 2018.

Hoping to get some feedback from the Web community. I would appreciate it very much if you will share your experience and thoughts.

That was a good read! Using Wordpress for a couple of years now, I must say that what I like about it the most is its flexibility when it comes to customization. It can be complicated, unlike Wix, but it gives you no limitation in achieving the exact kind of design and functions that you wish to bring into your website. So, I'd go with Wordpress for now. -Micah

    Hi Mark,

Yeah technology changes so fast but If I differentiate Wix and Wordpress than I would say:

Wix: Its is much easier to use (we require no coding, just to drag & drop content around), no such backend maintenance required from you. Your costs are very predictable. But your website will be a lot less customizable when compared to using WordPress.

WordPress: It is more flexible and highly customizable but could be very problematic if your custom tools or plugins breakdown. Requires hands-on the ongoing maintenance, higher initial learning curve and most likely higher financial commitment over the long run. Costs are less predictable, depending on whether you need to hire a coder to help you, the frequency of hiring, and the quality / caliber of the coder.

    Thanks

  • As a webdeveloper I would go for Wordpress. Wix is nice, but WP is still my pick simply because it´s so easy to use and customize.

If you want something easy to make a beautiful design, no need any special features for the website, well, you should use Wix. Otherwise, choose Wordpress.

WordPress is far better than Wix. WordPress is flexible and you can create any type of website with it. WordPress gives you total control on every part of your website.

You will get all types of Plugins for WordPress according to your needs but you will not get it for Wix. And most of them are FREE.

WordPress is definitely better than Wix (and I believe that it's better than any other CMS). Why? It's self-hosted (no need to pay high Wix bills - you choose the hosting). Unique domain name. Thousands of free and paid themes available out there. The same is about WordPress plugins - there are tons of them. And finally (although there are more reasons), WordPress site is better optimized for SEO - which means more people, more traffic, more money. Besides, there is a plugin for Wix to WordPress migration - https://wordpress.org/plugins/cms2cm...o-wp-migrator/

Wordpress + a page builder = an unlimited number of layouts and pages you can create (my personal fav is Elementor plugin).

Give the free version a shot:

Wordpress hands down. Wordpress can be customized to virtually do anything.
There are also an abundance of plugins that you can use and they are mostly free.
I've tried many different things for my websites and now I exclusively run everything on wordpress.

If you're new you could give a go to wix, if you're serious and are considering building more than 1 website I'd strongly recommend wordpress.

Both are best for build website. But my opinion Wordpress is best to build website. Because in Wordpress lots of designed theme available, choose as per your requirement and easy to customization these theme also.

Wordpress site loading speed is very slow
    Wix is expensive
    I suggest only "bootstrap studio"
pay 25 bucks once to download and build unlimited high speed html5 websites.

I think Wix wins in terms of ease of use but Wordpress is more powerful and flexible. If someone had limited computer skills and just needed a very basic website for a small business with just a few pages advertising their services I would recommend using Wix because I think the learning curve for Wordpress would be wasted on such a basic website. But for most other projects I'd recommend putting in the time to learn Wordpress. I did a similar blog post to yours where I went into detail on my thoughts on this exact subject. Wix vs Wordpress

I'm in the process of converting a Wix site to WordPress for a client, and I have to say that underlying HTML was just beastly. I don't know if it was the particular site, or if all Wix site's are like that.

It seemed all that was used was DIV tags. Very rarely was there any other HTML. Using only DIV tags to build a site would be like building a house using only a hammer as the only tool. You can probably build the house, but you would not want to live there.

If anyone has any input as to the underlying HTML of WIX, would love to hear it.

Wordpress all the way. Divi is one of my favorite themes. I just use Wix as a feeder site or as a mini site for backlinking purposes.

I have seen how wordpress evolved. It's a solid and flexible platform.

I feel Mark if a site is worth building, just use wordpress dot org. Wix definitely gets some serious pop through an aggressive ad campaign - I see an ad every time I visit YouTube - but it is light years behind dot org for so many reasons, from branding potential to support to monetizing potential.
