Do you create your logos? or Outsource it?

Hi Warriors. I'm planning to contact businesses offline to offer my web design service (a 3-5 page site).

My questions: if the business owner doesn't have a logo to send me to upload to the Wordpress site, should I make one for him myself for free? or should I outsource the logo creation and charge the business owner for the logo? Some guides say to do it free myself and others say get someone on fiverr to do it. What are your thoughts?

Also, have you ever made a site for a client that just had simple text for the header (no logo)?

Also, for the About Us and Services pages, do you get the business owner to create and send you the content? Or do you send them a questionnaire and then create the pages yourself from the information in that questionnaire? One wso I bought said that if you get the business owner to create the content, it will never get done and you'll get blamed for the site not being completed.

Any thoughts?

    I'm in agreement with the WSO advice. They hired you to do the work, so you should do the work maybe try to get on a quick phone call with the client and have them tell you the information and their vision. Take notes. A questionnaire will never get filled out by busy business owners.

    Your time is valuable. How long would it take you to create a logo? I always suggest outsourcing work that can be done better and faster by a professional. Obviously, you don't want to break the bank and eliminate your profit...and that's how websites like Fiverr were created. I've used them many times and have been happy. Turnaround times are great. Just need to make sure you can get free revisions.

    Would you charge the client for the outsourcing? It depends. Fiverr is not expensive. I would probably just include that in my fee and absorb it. Also, if they know you are outsourcing their logo creation, that could lower your value in their eyes. They could outsource themselves and skip you all together.

    Summary: have the client believe you or your agency is responsible for the entire finished product. Outsource as much as you can while still making a good profit so you can focus more on your business rather than the nitty gritty.

      Thanks palmtreelife for the helpful post. I will make their logo. I'm terrible at logo creation though. Fiverr sounds like an option.

      I assumed that most small businesses had a logo already created for their store.

    In my opinion, you should outsource the logo, the logo is a very important part for any business, if i see low-quality logo on the website, it feels unprofessional and it can harm sales.

    Also, I have bought logo creation service from fiverr for $20 and I was disappointed, better find someone from warrior forum or from other forums and don't be cheap as you would get cheap results.

      Thanks for your input redexclub. Are your clients ok with the site being left as Lorem Ipsum when it's handed to them? Do they ever ask you for help in posting the About Us, Contact Us, Services pages?

    Why would you do anything for free? If you're looking to give away a logo design to build better relation with the client, then you probably can consider giving it away for free. However, make sure that the client 'knows' of the big favor you're doing them by giving the free logo. Make sure you promote the giveaway enough to benefit from your effort.

    I have 16 websites and i never had a logo. The web designer quote includes the logo. I think most people would expect a logo when they get a new website. If they already have one, you can use it but if there is no logo available, you should offer it within the package

      Why would you do it for free? Are you planning on creating crap? Do your time and skills have no value?

      If they do not have it, you quote them a price for it. They do not need to know how you get it done. They need to know when you deliver it and how many revisions and that they will like it. And, then, deliver one they like.

      If you cannot do it or do not like doing it, outsource and make sure what you get paid makes the person who does it happy while making you happy.

      I want $75 for me for nanaging the process; the guy who actually does the logos wants $75. So I add $150 to the price of the website.

      Ifthe guy charged me 300, I'd charge my client $375.
