I highly recommend the free plugin Simple SSL to do this.

The Simple Website Redirect plugin can help to redirect website. Using this plugin is simple:
    1. Install the plugin
    2. Activate the plugin
    3. Click on 'Website Redirect' from 'Settings' in the WordPress admin menu
    4. Enter the URL you want to redirect the site
    5. set the desired redirection type, set the status to 'Enabled'
    6. save your changes!

I do this using cPanel. If you have cPanel it's easy. If you don't have cPanel refer to your hosting providers documentation. I usually do this after installing a SSL certificate to take care of the http https thing at the same time. All you mention is you want all forms the the URL to become the same and show the same in your browser. Here's what you do.

Log in to your cPanel. Find the Domain section and click on Redirects. On the redirects page you only have to do a few things.
1 - there is a drop menu for Type you want to select Permanent (301).
2 - there is a drop menu for https?://(www.?) select the the domain name.
3 - below - Redirects to - is a box/field type or paste the full URL you want to use for your site. So whatever you want to use - https://... or htpps://www... or http://... or htpp://www... depending if you have a SSL installed.
4 - in - www. redirection: - make sure - Redirect with or without www. - is checked.
    5 - Click - Add
If everything went correctly you will see you created a redirect. Scroll down to the - Current Redirects - section and you should see your newly created Redirect listed.
You can delete the redirect and recreate it if you want. Test it make sure it works.

Since your using WordPress you can also enter the preferred URL you just used creating the redirect in the admin dashboard. Login to the Admin Dashboard > Settings > General in the WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) fields enter the URL you will be using from now on. Usually the same URL in both fields. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click - Save Changes. Done
