Should I add a AI chatbot to my website?

I've had a look around and apparently these AI chatbots are pretty helpful.

I've researched them, but I'm thinking, should I get a subscription to one or get someone to develop one?

I don't have the most money either to be spending on this.

Well in my opinion a chatbot helps as people feels good when its someone that can speak on the site and it gives them a sense of trust

Yeah, maybe, but often chatbots give generic answers and don't really get what the user needs. Sometimes it's more annoying than helpful, especially if the issue is more complex

Chatbots give the answers that they were programmed to provide.

Part of setting up a chatbot is including its questions and answers.

So it could be loaded with five answers, a product manual, the
Encyclopedia or some other source of information.

I completely agree with you. Personally, they annoy me. But maybe that's just my own pedantic nature working against me. If I have a question, I always start by reading all the articles on the website, and only if my question isn't covered in any FAQ do I turn to the chat. But most chatbots just repeat answers from the FAQ. Sadly, I haven't come across a really good one yet.

It depends on what type of website you have. An e-commerce site will have more needs for a chatbot than a basic affiliate site. If you have a solid Question and Answer page that answers the most common questions. Plus, using a contact page with quick follow-ups will cut down your need for a chatbot. You should spend more time getting traffic and sales if you cannot afford a chatbox.

Not all websites require a chatbot, only if there is something
relevant that people would have questions about or need things
explained to them, such as a product or service you are offering.

A chatbot is code so you could develop it yourself if you know
the basics of developing and installing code onto your website
hosting. You can use an A.I. coding tool or even just ChatGPT
that could write the code for you.

If you are on WordPress there may be a chatbot plugin. I work
with HTML websites, so I'm not sure about WP for this.

Go to YouTube and watch tutorials about developing chatbots.
If you decide to hire a developer, it's better if you know what
they are doing and so that you are not overcharged.

I don't recommend subscribing unless it's something complex
like an A.I. voice agent as those are more technical to develop
and install. You could watch YouTubes about them also.

I agree it depends on how complex the chatbot needs to be, and for simple FAQs a monthly fee might not be worth it. I've heard of open-source tools like Botpress or Rasa if you're okay with coding, and there are WordPress plugins for basic bots too. Checking YouTube tutorials is a good idea to decide whether to build it yourself or hire someone.

Well..chatbots can be useful, but only if they're actually connected to something helpful, otherwise, they just confuse people and waste time, specially on smaller sites, where the traffic doesn't really justify the setup effort. I've seen too many bots that just pop up constantly and offer nothing useful,if its not solving a real problem, its just adding noise, sometimes a clean contact form or a well organized FAQ does the job better

If budget's tight, I'd go with a subscription-based one to start - way cheaper than building your own. A lot of them are super easy to set up and still do a decent job for basic support or FAQs. You can always upgrade later if it takes off.

It doesn't cost anything to build your own chatbot.

If you have a website, you already have hosting,
      so there's no added expense.

I'm trying tawk.to, which is free (for now, I don't think i'll get to the limit soon). Its working pretty neat, it answers a bunch of questions and will also ask for contact info to generate leads for follow-up.

    Hi EllietheMarketer,

You may have worked out what you need to do now, but I thought I'd share some additional insight. Depending on your business and SOP, a chatbot may help you with a variety of things - collect leads, book appointments, sell products all while you are doing other things. It also can answer any questions your audience may have. Depending on how it is developed for you, it either answers generic questions or questions related specifically towards your business and niche market. I develop chatbots for businesses (like others here). Think of the AI Chatbot as an additional tool to help support you - technically answering questions your VA doesn't have too while you work on your business not in your businesses.

ps - if by now you have already created your own free chatbot - congratulations! Don't forget to check your stats to see what's going on.

Unforentately, I haven't had a chance yet, since I've been very busy. I've been reading through all the comments and like you, people are saying to build my own. Which is interesting. But I would not even know where to start.

I'm going to have a search to see if it is an easy task for a person who doesn't have much experience with this.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts

You would use A.I. to build the chatbot, nobody expects you
        to write code for it.

Go on ChatGPT and ask it to explain the process of setting
up a chatbot. It's not that complicated.

If you know how to set up a website, you won't have any
        problems developing a chatbot.

Are you aware that ChatGPT writes code?

It's not expensive to develop a chatbot using ChatGPT or any of the other A.I. code writers.

I opine that you should go for custom development only if you need something very specific. However, If you're on a budget, start with a subscription it's cheaper and gives you plenty of features.

Yes, adding an AI chatbot can be a great move if done right. It helps with 24/7 customer support, faster responses, lead generation, and reducing repetitive workload. Just make sure it's well-trained, updated, and always gives users the option to connect with a real person. Done properly, it can boost both user experience and conversions.

If your site just needs to handle basic stuff like FAQs or pointing people to the right page, don't spend big money yet. Start with a free or low-cost chatbot and test if it actually helps your visitors.

Custom builds are great but usually expensive and overkill unless your site has heavy traffic or complex needs. Better to try a simple option first, then upgrade later if you see real value.

Well, in my opinion, I wouldn't go for the chatbot subscription. You might be better off hiring a virtual assistant to sit on the desk. A real human is always better.

I would argue that it really depends on your site goals. If there are questions you get a lot of repeated questions (such as pricing, support, or shipping), then a chatbot could be a great way to set the time. Just don't count on a chatbot for everything -- people still often want access to a real person if they need to ask a question.

The best way to handle this is to begin with a basic chatbot, and then check to see how visitors use it. If it works out, then you could always upgrade or customize at that point.

  • Yes, if done right! An AI chatbot can boost customer support, answer FAQs 24/7, and even drive sales. Just be sure to train it on your business needs and keep a human agent for inquires that are coming. Human check is required here obviously.
