Quick (probably simple!) Help with a Fireworks issue

I use fireworks fairly regularly, (simple stuff mainly), but I have had the wierdest thing happening for about the past oh, month now, and I have no clue what I did to cause it.

When I am adding Text (using the text tool) to absolutely *anything* - I get it the way I want, I hit "apply", and then I say "Okay".

The text totally disappears as if I'd never created it

I really need to use it rather than flipping back and forth between Adobe photoshop, I just want to use fireworks depending on what I'm doing.

Anyone have ideas?

This is driving me absolutely bonkers, and it's probably something simple.

Are you adding the text on a separate layer or to an existing one? You might try experimenting and either
    (a) create the text/layer in a separate document and then move it over
    (b) verify that the text/layer is brought to the front/topmost layer
    (c) absolutely check that your text color and font size are truly what you intend (I pasted white on white for about 15 minutes once).

You may also try selecting all the objects after you hit apply to see if the text box is present or not...

      Hi Stalwart,

I've tried it both ways - including a totally blank new image. (Just tried it again, same thing)

I keep changing the text color - but its not staying. It's as if its grayed out - keeps reverting back to white when I reopen the text box dialogue.

And when I click to apply - it stays... until I say "ok" and then it still disappears.

I've changed even the background color to make sure i'm not just putting white text and its not appearing... nope its just not staying at all.

        Okay,

Have you also verified that you have a stroke and fill properly set. I could somewhat duplicate what you described by setting it to no stroke or fill in the Colors (fireworks CS4) panel when entering new text in the text box

Hi Stalwart - I have fireworks 4 - not sure if thats the same as "CS4"? (I don't see the CS anywhere, my version is several years old... probably 2003?)

When I look at the stroke and fill, they seem to be okay. (Obviously they don't have any options when nothing is open, but when I create even a new blank image, they both now have drop downs.)

          I just tried something else:

I created a blank image. I used the "fill" (paint bucket) and set a color... applied it to the image - and nothing happens either.

I think around a month ago I made changes to settings in Adobe Acrobat... could it have affected Fireworks?

Should we just reinstall it? It's so strange!

Well - we put the CD in to do a 'fix' install...

and now it works again. I have no clue what caused it, but at least now its working.

    Thanks for your help.
