Word Press Ecommerce - Migrate existing site

Hi Everyone,

I have a client who wants to upgrade their ecommerce site. Even though it's ecommerce (with products), they have No shopping cart.

By "upgrade" I mean improve the navigation, and overall design, plus make it easier to maintaing.

In addition to the upgrade, they want to get more traffic by having a better position on the search engines.

Their existing site has been "hand coded" using just html and javascript, with each product page based on a template. There is NO database or content management system.

They want to add about 30 more products which are a completely different category from the existing, and would like a way for a "normal user" (not a programmer) to add the products.

I am considering migrating their site to WordPress and using the ecommerce plug in.

However, for SEO reasons, I want to keep each of their pages' URLs exactly the same. Each page on their site has a "html" extension.

If I migrate the site to Wordpress, the existing pages wouldn't have a "html" extension.

So, do you think it would be okay to do this:

1) Install wordpress on their existing site and have their main page as a wordpress page. Currently, their main page - the root of the domain name is indexed in google without the "index.html" file.

2) Leave all the files as they are, with the "html" extension.
For new products, enable the ecommerce plug-in and upload the new products through wordpress.

Would love to hear ideas on this please. I will most likely be looking to hire someone to help me with this also. Thanks.
