What's the best SEO optimised theme for Wordpress, that requires no modifications?

Actually, what's the best free one? And what is the best premium one?

I use plugins for seo instead of selecting an seo-optimized theme. That way I can have the look I want and still have very good on-page seo. On some of my wordpress sites I use All in One SEO Pack and on others I use Platinum SEO.

I think the theme is not related to the on-site optimization. Just find a proper theme with a good layout. Its the plugins that can help you. I use all-in-one seo and they help the on site keyword optimization

Before choosing a theme I would suggest on looking up their tech support.

I have had some freebie themes break during Wordpress updates.

It seems to be a general consensus that any theme should work ok, as long as All in one SEO is used. That makes things easy! Thanks guys.

Have a look at the Thesis theme. Not every theme is SEO friendly because of the coding. But you shouldn't think to much about it. Especially in niches you will find a theme which works well for your own, it needs some time. Use All in One SEO or SEO Ultimatum.

The choice of the "correct" wp theme is not going to make much difference to your site's Search Engine Rankings.

All you have to worry about are the following :
1. Unique page titles on every page - WP does that already for you
2. Keyword in the title - Use All in One SEO Plugin
3. Make sure the code is valid (run it through validator.w3.org)

beyond that all wp themes are the same..

What really matters in your sites 'off-site" linking.

Like how many links your sites have, etc.

If ranking well in the Search Engines is more important that looks (for some off-line clients, this is reversed) then don't spend too much time of worrying about the theme.

Get link building

For me personally, I have found out that any theme which can pass XHTML/CSS validation and works with All-In-One SEO Pack will work great.
