Hi everyone, I am trying to put up my first site. I purchased the content, hosting and domain name. I tried several times to change the theme and each time I do the article headings which appear in the sidebar scrol up the header. The original template I had is a kubrick I think. These are free WP templates and the side bar titles do this on all the themes. I have adwords as well but they remain in the side bar. The post heading or article headings are not in a widget and were present when I received the website.

WHAT TO DO????????? Obviously I need help.

    Hi

Inside WP Admin you can edit your widgets for your sidebar, but to be able to help any further it might help to see your website & see exactly what you mean

By the way, if this is a brand new website of yours, it might be advisable NOT to have Adsense on there straight away (indeed if that is what you mean)

Hi, how can I show you the site? net dash marketing dash magazine dot com.
The posts are not in a widget. I know how to go in the admin to make changes to widgets. The site comes adsense ready. When you mouse over the light green area you will find the headings, there is also one in the nav bar.

Unless you have really customized theme, which I doubt since you mention FREE, everything in the sidebar is in a widget be it the recent posts or advertising.

This is, of course, dependant on the actual theme because some do have certain things hard-coded into the sidebar php file. You may have found a free theme that has these functions and need to edit the css that controls their formatting.

As sainteve21 said - posting the site would help to see the page source and possible identify the problem.

It looks like you have a script that has blown-up your header area. Maybe some sort of slide show?

Did you add the any scripts or were they already part of the theme when you got it?

I agree, if you want an adsense ready theme then try one of the pro-sense themes, but changing to another theme should fix the problem, but if it doesn't then it is your WP structure itself with an additional (slideshow?) script running

Without getting into the guts of your WP structure & scripts then it's hard to say, especially if this is happening on every theme you try

If this is the case, then best bet would be to back up your content & re-install WP again

      Best of luck

It is very difficult to tell without access to your panel but I've had a a look at your site and it looks to me like the dark green link banners in the side bar are fixed width and are larger than the sidebar itself. This is screwing up your header and general theme table structure.

I think you need to resize the internal link banners to fit within the specified dimensions of the sidebar.

    Hope this helps.

I've looked at your site and very frankly, if you have a few more bucks to spend, I suggest you get real expert help to you build this professionally for you in no time.

Wordpress is "easy" to work and manage it's true but to a certain level nevertheless. It's not that easy for newbies who have few knowledge of the platform plus HTML, CSS, PHP and graphics. Well at least when you want to try to go beyond what a strict template offers as is.

I see what you want to accomplish with this site also, and believe me it takes much more than simply putting up a wordpress site with a template, and niche content with adsense, here and there, to make it. Real success is a whole composed of several elements carefully built together.

I suggest you take a look at my woprpress power package offer, in my sig below, and read carefully to see all that it includes, nothing is missing in fact, for one single low price. It sells like hot cakes. A complete customized turnkey solution, a real hassle free "just publish and make money" solution.

    Best ragrds,

Hi everyone, I apologize for not expressing my situation clearly, let me try again. I purchased a preconfigured site with hosting. The site was set up for me. It came with articles, google adsense and videos. The site looked dull so I tried to put a different theme on it. As a newbie I am thinking this is something easy to do like changing something in HTML. My bad..... I have expressed the problem before so won't repeat here. I have looked at the script but am unable to read it. If I knew what needed to be changed I would do that but don't know what settings need to be changed. I tried free themes because as a newbie I didn't realize that could cause problems. I know how to put in the optin page and banners. Currently the only thing in the widget is google adsense, nothing else. When you type a post it appears in the sidebar, not in a widget. I am willing to spend money for advise but I am on social security and will not receive my check for another two weeks. Additionally, this very month our kind, dear political leaders reduced by check by $110. I still have the same expenses.

I will put the bad looking, meaning the site with the messed up header up for 24 hrs. If anyone has the time maybe they can have a look and advise me. If you feel you can tell me what to do, I can copy the script for you if needed, I will go in a make the changes. I will purchase a theme if you recommend one.....thesis is out of my price range at the moment. Sorry to be so long winded........

It looks like your articles are written as pages and they are showing up in your header menu. My suggestion is to download the Exclude Pages plugin and exclude all of those articles.

I would dump the "free" theme templates out there. Alot of people put them together with adsense so that when you do get traffic it pays the person that originally built the site.

If you go to semilogic.com, it seems to be the best free wp template that I used and it is very customizeable.
