Niche Sites or WP Installs?

Hey everyone,

Need some advice please!

I currently have a few niche product sites, each hosted on its own Wordpress blog (I started out doing it all in WP cause I heard of the advantages in terms of SEO/crawlability etc).

My question is: does it make sense to do this in WP if i'm not planning to update the sites very often (or at all)? The idea is to have them set up as Amazon affiliate sites. WP is pretty slow...

A follow up question: if you were forced to set up 50 product niche sites with 10 product reviews on each one, how would you go about doing this? Help appreciated!

    Go with Wordpress even if you don't plan to update it frequently.

    Creating static HTML sites take lots of time and you wont be able to get all those features or benefits which you get while using Wordpress, like automatic pings, seo friendly cms, etc.

    There are lots of WP plugins for Amazon affiliate program.

    As per WP beings Slow is concerned, check your host, theme you use and all the plugins.

    Wordpress isn't slow in itself, its all those extra mods and plugins we add in it which makes it slow.

      You're right - turns out my plugins are causing the slowness...

      Edit: do you have any suggestions for a great Niche product review Wordpress theme to use? Is Thesis 1.7 the ultimate all in one solution?

        Yes, i am in Nepal. Ever been here ?

        If you need option for lots of customization then Thesis is the best IMHO, but if you just need easy to use theme for niche/review site then always google for "keyword + wordpress theme" where keyword is the niche you want and 9 out of 10 times you will find a free theme made exactly for your niche. Most people take this approach too lightly but i bet you find theme this way easily.

    Hi Nick,

    If you only need 1 or 2 pages, I would actual go with static pages. There is a lot of processing overhead on a server using Wordpress for small websites.

    We have just done a post on "Site Speed.." you might want to check out on our blog. There are links in there to the Google blog where you can download a tool to check the speed of your websites.

    If I was building 50 of these sites, I would make speed a priority. Many people will click away if they have to wait too long.
