Non technical guide to speed up Wordpress

I wrote this guide as an easy way for people to speed up Wordpress via the least methods for the best gain and I explained any technical aspect so that it's easy for anyone to implement.

Speed up Wordpress | Make Money on the Internet

I dropped my blog's load time from around 7 seconds down to 2.5 seconds

For those too lazy to click through the gist of the article is W3 Total Cache (properly configured - which is easy to mess up) and CDN implementation.

I thought this may help some fellow internet marketers since many of us are not technical.

No one try implementing my suggestions or are you already all using W3 Total Cache in conjunction with a Content Delivery Network?

You lost me at "Chris Guthrie is Awesome"

Thanks for the link to MaxCDN... I think that will come in handy for my project in the works.

lol, I try to incorporate humor when possible hah hah. I work at home all day by myself so I try and find ways to be amusing.

Yes MaxCDN has been pretty great for the price.

Very nice article Chris. I recently just did a blog post on speeding up websites in general using the .htaccess file.

        Slow Websites & SEO

Your post confirmed a few things for me and showed me new stuff I wasn't aware of. Perhaps a follow up post with a backlink is needed.

        Cheers,
        e.

      Chris, regarding DNS nameservers...

You mean setting your domain registration to point to NS1.MYDOMAIN.COM / NS2.MYDOMAIN.COM ?

As far as that goes, it would offer no speed benefit over NS1.MYHOST.COM (or whatever) since they would likely both run off the same DNS server.

It's the speed at which those DNS lookups can be performed that counts. Some DNS servers are faster than others. This is (hopefully) a matter of miliseconds.

You can see how long it takes to lookup your domain here: DNS Lookup tool, Reverse DNS lookup tool - www.DNSWatch.info (type your domain into the first box marked "DNS Lookup")

Sweet thanks for the link I'm checking now. Yah I'm always looking to improve speed so that was one of the things I was thinking of. The literal time it takes before content loads (which I assume is the DNS being contacted etc.)

The W3 total cache plugin works well with Cloudfront/Amazon S3 as well, for those of you whom have an account already which I'm sure if quite a few of you. Works great on several of my blogs, and was really easy to setup on both ends.

I haven't tried MaxCDN, but I believe it actually had (from my reading) a few extra steps in involved over Cloudfront.

Amazon is so dirt cheap it's not even funny.
