Wordpress Theme Editor Not Working?

I am trying to edit files via wordpress, like the footer.php, header.php, etc.

I update the file, and it 'takes', but the website never refreshes. I go to download that file via FTP, and the changes are not in it, which would explain why changes are not taking effect on the web, but why are they 'taking' in wordpress, but not actually changing the files?

I can go back into the editor, and the changes are still there, but the actual file will not have the changes.

I checked permissions for the wp-content folder, looks good, I also re-uploaded the wp-admin folder, no luck. Any ideas??

Have you checked the theme name to make sure it's the same one?

Download your style.css file for that theme using your host's file manager or an FTP program and then make sure the header looks like this

Do you have several themes in the wp-content dir? It sounds to me that maybe you aren't editing the right set of files.

Moreover, I recommend to never use the wp editor to edit files. It's better edit files locally, using dreamweaver for example, and then upload the files with changes. That way you always have a set of files backed up locally and you always can easily keep track of which files are the most recent.

    Best regards,

I've been editing files manually, for some minor tweaks, which is no big deal, but IF it starts working, and one of my dev's use it on accident, and update it, the previous updates will be lost/overwritten. Can I disable the editor all together?

I know its been a while, but the same thing happened to me. In case it happens to anyone else, check to see if your wordpress install is running WP Supercache or any other caching plugins. I disabled Supercache and my changes started showing up.
