[Solved] How Do You Capture A Video From JW Player?

I have seen a lot of great video trainings which are free on the internet. Problem is, I don't know how to save them onto my computer and use them in the future. How can I save and capture JW videos onto my computer?

    Sometimes you can right-click on a video and download it. Whether
    this works depends on how the video hosting is set up. If you
    didn't pay for access to the video, I wouldn't expect the host to
    make it easy for you to suck up their bandwidth downloading

    Go with "DownloadHelper". It's a very good firefox plugin and the best tool I've found till date to download the streaming videos.

      Actually I have found that DownloadHelper does not work with many 'encoded' JW videos.
      I tried VSO Downloader which intercepts on the network stack/driver level, but it did not get it either, and neither did Any Video Convertor Pro's downloader.
      What ended up working for me was Internet Download Manger's browser integration which pops up a little 'grabber' window whenever it detects any sort of additional file (video, audio, sometime Java) on the current page that it can download.
      Interestingly, the resulting files were in .ts format. Since .ts is often just a container file for captured/recorded MPEG-2 files, I am not sure if this is the original file format from the encoded JW Player stream or if IDM generated it when it intercepted/captured the video. Just like VSO, IDM installs a virtual network driver to intercept files on the network stack level.

        Thanks! Worked like a charm! Downloaded and converted 36 *.TS files with Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate to mp4 files. Although, *.TS files can be viewed on VLC media player, I use PlayOn to stream video to my TVs via Roku from my media server in my home office, so I did the conversion. Thanks again for the tip!!

    I did search all over google and yahoo. I came up with nothing, but I did follow the post listed below. Which was very helpful. As of right now you cannot download jw player stuff in internet explore. Good news is that in firefox the same webpage might load different and you can download it in real player. I hope this help anyone out. I did search around for about 2 hrs.

    That is very easy if you use Firefox.
    1- Just go to the page that contains the video.
    2- Right click anywhere on the page.
    3- click on "view page info"
    4- Click on "Media"
    5- Inside the scroll down box, find and select the swf file you want.
    6- Click on "save as".

      That works fine - However, what if the swf file is only 50kb and has the name "mediaplayer.swf" and won't play anything?:rolleyes:

    Capture any vid with SnapzProx - Snapz Pro X | Ambrosia Software, Inc. - creates a Quicktime file.

    Also good for stills. Costs $69. I use it just about every day and have done for 5 years.

      I found a pretty easy way. Open the web page with the video you want to download, disconnect your computer from the internet, hit the JW Player play button, and the web address for the video will appear in the player window with a message that the web address can't be found. Type the web address of the video in your browser address bar, reconnect your computer to the internet and hit enter to go to the web address and you should be able to download the video you want. I've downloaded many mp4 videos this way.

    JW FLV Player can show HTTP, HTTPS and RTMP flash videos. While you may use freeware Ask & Record Toolbar to save HTTP and HTTPS streams, RTMP ones are more difficult to capture/record/download/save.

      might be interested in this so I'll post....

      As far as I know, RTMP (used by Hulu and others) is impossible to capture, short of using Camtasia or equivalent to make a movie of your screen.

        This may or may not be helpful but I use HiJack to grab the Audio. I know it is not the Movie however, I travel a lot and walking around in the airport you get a lot of "Air time" to yourself.

        I always keep a lot of audios on hand. I even HiJack Video sales pages to study them in the airport or on the plane, etc.

        It's another idea anyway.

        Hello all,

        Created an account just to post this.

        RE: RTMP streams, capturing video from JW Player (v7.6.1+)

        I have found a method that does not require any paid-for software, is pretty simple, lightweight, and quick (provided you're willing to do a little hacking).

        Essentially my method uses the RTMPDump library which is open-source under GPLv2 license. (RTMP streams no longer impossible to capture, w00t!1)

        Use this with RTMPDumpHelper which carries the ambiguous "freeware" license.

        Both of these software packages are available on Chocolatey.

        Instructions:
        1. Copy and paste the following code block into Notepad.
        2. Save the document as "rip_RTMP.bat" to your desktop. (make sure you change the file extension to .bat, either with "Save As.." in Notepad.exe, or right-click -> Rename from *.txt to *.bat, so that you don't have "rip_RTMP.bat.txt". May have to uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" in explorer.exe to do this, Google for instructions.)
        3. Right-click "rip_RTMP.bat" -> Run As Administrator.
        4. Follow instructions from RTMPDumpHelper: with RTMPDumpHelper.exe running, browse to the webpage in FireFox (or possibly Chrome).

        WARNING: Never run arbitrary code you find on the internet without first knowing what it does.

    Download helper is for sure the best but for some reason on some videos it doesn't work and JW may be or may not be one of those...

    Whenever it doesn't work I use Camtasia to record the screen and that always works

    Actually videos running on JW player have an extension named .flv (Flash Video) or .mp4 which can be easily downloaded with any of the following softwares......

    RealPlayer (I recommend this if you don't understand technical stuff as it automatically integrates in most of the browsers without any problem)

    IDM (Intenet Download Manager)

    Download Helper..... (not tested but heared of it much)

    Wish you success in finding right thing....

    Did anyone think if the creator is not offering it a downloadble format - that maybe they don't want you downloading it?

    If you think they DO want you to download it - just contact them and tell them you'd like to download it but can't work out how - and you'll soon find out or get a solution.

    People seem to be approaching this from a "how do I get people's stuff if they don't want me to?" angle, and while I do know how to grab any video I'm certainly not going to tell people if it's for stealing other people's stuff without permission.

      no Andy, you misunderstood me....alot of times I come across webinar replays and sales videos that are really long.....and there is no scroll bar that will allow the user to skip ahead...

      sometimes i dont have the time to listen to a 30 minutes sales pitch via video only to find out that its out of my price range.

      so the purpose was the download the video in order to be able to skip ahead past the parts i find irrelevant to me

        Well it's actually pretty handy to have some app that helps u save web videos for offline watching, I mostly do it when I go on trips or anything like that and I know I won't be having any internet connection on the laptop.

        There's also some Audials Tunebite app that might be useful for u, this one also works to capture and save streaming videos off the web, works with a ton of streaming sources so I guess it can pretty much handle any kinda streaming videos.

    Hey Thats Kinda Really Easy ....

    Use Mozilla Firefox For this Purpose ..

    Download And install "Ant video downloader" on mozilla ...

    Restart Mozilla ..

    And You are good to go ...

    It works really easy ... The video which is playing on the browser is detected by ant video downloader and it appears on the toolbar with a button to Download ..

    press it and its downloaded ....

    iWisoft Free Video Downloader Free Video Downloader - download online videos from any website works great for downloading loads of things! I often download webinar replays in case I have a connectivity issue and then play back the file on my computer.

    There is a place inside the software where you can set which types of files you wish to download. When you install it there is only one type that is not checked, and I think it's either SWF or FLV. Check that box, then it will grab pretty much anything out there. It's standalone software, so no need to use a certain type of browser to get it to work.

    It seems everybody who does webinar replays seems to think that people are always on functioning, working broadband, and that's not always the case (even though it might be a webinar about smartphones and/or tablets and they make the comment that there will soon be more smartphones than computers sold soon).

    But if I do use that to grab a video, it downloads faster than it plays back, so I quickly stop the video from playing/downloading after I have grabbed it with the software, so the bandwidth issue for them is not so bad. They will have the bandwidth used either way, whether you download it or if it just plays back in the browser anyway . . .

    Also, if they don't want you downloading it, then they don't want you to see it at all and so they wouldn't have put it out there for you to view it. In order to play it back your system will download the video someplace temporary anyway, and downloading prior to playback avoids that skip and/or pause that makes playing stuff back unbearable to suffer through when you have connectivity problems due to lots of people trying to play the same video at the same time.

      Display the source code using the view source code item in the developper options of your browser.

      Then search for .mp4, you'll find one related to the video you want to save, copy paste the filename enclosed in '' afer the file= on a notepad, example value='file=11-12/checklist.mp4'

      Then look a bit higher and you'll find the server where it's saved, for example http://clicfr.s3.amazonaws.com/

      Then build the full URL by pasting both part:

      http://clicfr.s3.amazonaws.com/11-12/checklist.mp4

      Paste it into a new tab, it'll start playing. Pause it; then go to File, Save page as.

      Choose a name and a location for the video.

      Done.
