Export to a PDF document and serve that instead on the website.

PDF is more of an industry standard and is operating system agnostic.

One method I have used is to save each individual PowerPoint slide as a separate graphic file. I then use a slideshow plugin (or script if it's a non-CMS site) to display the presentation on the site without requiring the user to have any special software to view it.

I agree or what you can do is convert ppt into video and then embed it in your website. even this could be a professional way to share information on your website. This way some one visiting your website does not need any special software to see your video/ppt.

It can also be exported as HTML files, however I have never tried this. I guess this is something to try out.

You can either convert it to a video or a PDF. There are a number of tools that will allow you to convert the PowerPoint here are a bunch - PowerPoint to Video

These tools will allow you to convert PowerPoint presentation to video formats, including avi, mpeg, 3gp, mp4, wmv, mov, etc.

You can put the PPT file on Web as Flash or video files.

I agree with you. After visiting others at their homes and finding they do not have powerpoint installed, I will not use it any longer. There are so many other site builders available that one can use. Even a reasonable cost by yahoo. Lots to look at there. BeBiz.com is another reasonable price, and quite different.

JoMO, why don't grab a copy of Camtasia and record a professional video out of it.

You can use the existing PowerPoint presentation, record your audio message with it and even include some special effects, a video of yourself etcetera.

You can upload the powerpoint file onto Slideshare.net so that you can embed it in your website as a flash, but the animations, transitions, video clips or audios will not be preserved.
If you want to preserve all these effects, you can use a professional PowerPoint to video converter like Moyea or Leawo.
