Ok first I hope I got the right forum. I am trying to install WordPress to my local machine so I can work on it before putting it on a customers domain. I have hit one snag I didn't count on. I can't get it to work locally. I installed Xampp and that seems to be fine. I followed all their instructions and I went through the WP codex as well. I followed the instructions carefully but I still get the following error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in C:\xampplite\htdocs\wordpress\wp-config.php on line 77

I have been through the wpconfig file several times looking for the error but I'll darned if I can find it. In case it helps:
Code:
<?php
/**

 *
 * This file has the following configurations: MySQL settings, Table Prefix,
 * Secret Keys, WordPress Language, and ABSPATH. You can find more information by
 * visiting {@link http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php Editing
 * wp-config.php} Codex page. You can get the MySQL settings from your web host.
 *
 * This file is used by the wp-config.php creation script during the
 * installation. You don't have to use the web site, you can just copy this file
 * to "wp-config.php" and fill in the values.
 *
 * @package WordPress

 */
$table_prefix  = 'wp_';

 * language must be installed to wp-content/languages. For example, install

 */
define ('WPLANG', '');

/* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */

/** Absolute path to the WordPress directory. */
if ( !defined('ABSPATH') )
    define('ABSPATH', dirname(__FILE__) . '/');

/** Sets up WordPress vars and included files. */
require_once(ABSPATH . 'wp-settings.php');
Being just a local install I am not to worried about posting this as it gives nothing away really. Just hoping someone with more WP experience than me will be able to see the problem.

Thanks for your time.

    Are you sure this is the default wordpress wp-config file? coz i see a lot of documentations entered inside it. And Have you given any password there?

    Wp settings file exists at the right place??

    Check these all..

      Yeah I was surprised to but that is the file straight from the unzip. And since it is a local install they tell you not to password it.

    I copy&pasted the wp-config-code you posted, can't find any line 77 in my editor. Try adding a closing php tag at the end of the file:

    ?>

    If you're just wanting to test it out, have a look in my sig, there's a link to software that is designed for exactly this situation. If you're running XP/Vista/Win7 it should work like a regular Windows app on your desktop. It's preconfigured with WP, up and running already.
