From what I understand, Wordpress 3.0 was supposed to merge Wordpress Mutli-user and the Wordpress.org project - does anyone have any information on this?

After I got the email that wordpress 3.0 had been released, I went to the wordpress.org website and watched the video. The guy talked about being able to host more hten 1 blog with a single install of wordpress. If I remember right, he said something like - "whether its 1 blog, or 1 million blogs, you can do it with a single install of wordpress".

I have a .us domain name that I thought about turning into a blogging community. So how do I go about doing that?

    Hi Kev,

Here: Create A Network WordPress Codex

There is a WF thread about the new WP 3.0, check it out too.

    Good luck with your network,

I hope you don't mean allowing other people to create blogs from your site (like wordpress.com does), because that is not possible. The MultiSite feature simply allows you to, after adding a bit of code to your wp-config.php file, manage multiple sites under one domain root directory (domain . com, test . domain . com, etc.) from the one install.

From what I'am seeing it is possible. I created a test account, and everything seems to be working ok - except wildcard sub-domains on the server. Once the new account is created accountname.sitename, com - DNS is not able to resolve the name. So I'am going to contact the hosting provider and ask them to look into fixing the DNS issue.

In the wordpress 3.0 release video, the guy states that wordpress and wordpress MU have been merged with version 3. You are now able to host 3, or 3 million blogs on 1 install of wordpress 3.

Setup Wordpress MU (multiple User) install. Or there are plugins to make the backend look less like WP, like Register Plus.
