Unable to upload a PHP script to wordpress blog

Hey guys, I'm having trouble uploading a php script I got from the war room. I copied the file, pasted it into notepad, then saved it as seo.php.txt.

Next, I opened filezilla and transferred the file to the public_html folder. I renamed the file to seo.php and went to www.mydomain.com/seo.php and keep getting a 404 error.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Do I have to enable something on wordpress to make it work? Thanks for your help!

A 404 error indicates that you didn't successfully name your script seo.php - essentially it's the "file not found" message.

Try copying the file into a proper text editor (i.e. PS Pad, NotePad++) and saving it with an actual .php extension. A good editor will also show if you have the file syntax correct.

      Thanks for the reply!

Installed notepad++ and copied the text into there and saved it as a php document. I'm still getting the 404 error however. Any idea what else could be the cause? Thanks.

Are you sure you have the file name correct - it can be case-sensitive. Also, make sure your existing WordPress site does not have a post or page entitled "seo", as that might confuse things.

You could try creating a subdirectory and placing the file there, just in case your WordPress installation is interfering with it.

Bottom line - the 404 error indicates that the file isn't there!

Thanks Bill for all your help! Contacted hostgator and apparently I was using the wrong username and password for the website, lol. I knew it was something stupid on my end
