Installing Wordpress to Existing Site

Hey guys!

I'm familiar with WordPress but I have never integrated it with an existing site. I'd like to do this with a site I'm working with now without disrupting the current site in the process. Any idea on how to do this? I use GoDaddy web hosting which allows me to easily install it to my website but I am afraid that if I install it to the root of the site I will ruin the existing site. Any tips or tutorials would be great.

  • Unless you are going to replace your current site, why don't you install Wordpress in a sub-domain (blog.yoursite.com) or sub-directory (yoursite.com/blog)?

However, if you want to install Wordpress in the root of your site's account, as long as your current site doesn't have an "index.php" file or other files and directories with a "wp-" prefix, you shouldn't overwrite your current content.

If you are just developing your Wordpress site, and plan to replace your exisiting site once your wordpress site has been developed, you could just develop on your local PC, using XAMPP as your development web server, then when you are done developing just use something like plugin buddy from Ithemes to transfer the wordpress site from your dev server to live. That way you dont have to tie up your live server until your wordpress site is ready.
