Hi I'm new to this so please bear with me, I have an SEO query which i'd like some help with.

I have paid for an adevrtising link to a shopping directory in connection with my business in an attempt to build some good quality links. Although my site is listed in the directory and i have a front page listing which hyperlinks through to my website, when i look at the backlinks the shopping website is not there, why?

Any advice would be appreciated.

    What is the tool you use to see backlinks.
    I use seoheap.com/backlinks.

    They may never get counted. It happens.
    They may be associated with selling links or listings and are discounted via Google.
    They may just not have been crawled yet.

    Be sure the backlinks are direct links and not redirects like many directories have.
    You should be able to tell this by mousing over the links and seeing in the status bar if they point directly to your domain.

    You can also use search status or related add-on for Firefox to see if the link is do follow or no follow. Yahoo backlinks are faster than using search command in Google for backlink count. If you want to check with Google, you need Google Webmaster enabled to get a more accurate count.
