word press help needed,

Hi, I am newbie. I hate asking for help when I have been unable to find anything I know to be able to offer to the community.

Number ONE - Where exactly do I look in my word press blog site to change the ads that are running on the page? When I set up a new blog I get some text boxes that ask about my affiliate names so can do that, but I have bought some sites that I just can't find where to change the affiliate codes or ads to ones of my own that is already built.

Number TWO - Is the squeeze page just another page on the domain or does it need its own domain name separate from the product page? Like if I had a page on domaining can I put a advertisement that would link to another page on that domain with the offer and opt in form? Does this make any sense to anyone?

Dnextra.com I bought already with good traffic but I blew it not being able to update it. This is the one I need to change

Heartkarma.com had built for me I need to monetize this one.

FineJewelryBid.info I built myself The automatic ebay ad puller does not do a good job with the selections. And the automatic article getter is not working i am doing something wrong.

Thanks for any help/criticism it is all justified. I've been an idiot to keep trying on my own for so long, I just wanted to have something to give back, but there has not really been one question I could answer here.

Michele

thanks

    Hi Michele

First of all you're a newbie, not an "idiot" - most people aren't born with WordPress skills, they need to be acquired.

Number one - The answer really depends upon the theme for the site in question. Some themes are made for advertising or affiliate marketing and can be modified within the WordPress Dashboard. Others are hard-coded and require you to modify one or more of the themes PHP files. Not knowing which of these cases apply to you makes this difficult to answer precisely.

Number Two - A Squeeze page is designed to get your visitor to complete a desired action as part of your sales funnel. In many cases the desired action is to fill out an opt-in box with an email address. It can be located on the same domain in its own directory, in a subdomain or even in its own domain. Think of it as an independent web page from your main site (which essentially it is).

Dnextra.com - if its the advertisements you need to change and there is no setting in your dashboard my guess is that the sidebar.php file is what you need to edit. You need to be comfortable with PHP to do that.

Heartkarma.com - You might want to check the sizing on some of your images, the aspect ratio seems to be off on many of them. Did you size them before uploading them (good idea), or were you just having WordPress do it for you (bad idea)?

FineJewelryBid.info - Definitely something wrong, my computer threw a conniption when I tried to load it. I would disable those plugins, finish the site and then add the plugins one by one until you see which one is dragging the site down.

Hope some of this is useful to you, best of luck with your sites.

      Bill,

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer me. I very much appreciate it.

Will I find the sidebar.php file in the dashboard somewhere? or is that when I go into the ftp and then can see the files. That is the only way I know how to get into the site other than the wp-admin in the address bar.

i had the heartkarma site built - I did not do a thing I will copy and paste your comment to the welshgal who did the very good work at an excellent price.

oh dear jewelry not opening. dang. i dont know cause it loads for me I think cause that static page thing or it is in my memory or somehting. it loads fine for me until i go to other pages, then crashes. dang.

but thanks again for your help.

    Hi Michele

You can edit the sidebar.php file from within the dashboard (Appearance --- Editor) but I really don't recommend it.

First make sure you have a backup of your theme, as you are familiar with FTP then just copy it down to your computer. Then make a COPY of it and open your sidebar.php copy with a proper text editor like PS Pad or Notepad++ . Make the changes to the copy and use your FTP client to upload it and overwrite the existing file.

This way if you make an error you can easily restore it with the original.

As for the jewelry site you may have it cached - try it on another computer or just using another web browser. I was using Chrome when I tested it - of course as always make sure you are testing in all 5 major browsers.
