Am I doing this right?

Hi guys.

I'm fairly new here, and new to the internet marketing world in general, so forgive me in advance if I'm not clear enough or don't use the right terminology.

I was wondering if you guys could take a look at my homepage and give some feedback. I'm a Life Coach, so this particular site that I have is about personal development, and I also have a section where I talk about my coaching services. On my homepage (as you will see) I have a blurb about the site, a video, and a link to my free ebook. As you scroll further down, some excerpts of blog posts. The idea is that one should be able to tell that not only is my site about the fact that I do life coaching, but that I write all this great content, have ebooks, make videos, etc. (Basically wanting them to know that there's great free content)

But as I delve more and more into this marketing world, I'm wondering if my home page (as is) is dull...if it doesn't really capture the visitor and say much about what the point is. I guess I'm wondering if my home page should be more of a landing page with information about my coaching...and then you'd see from the navigation bar that I have a blog, etc. I have some more e-books and products that I'd like to release, and I'm wondering if that sort of stuff is what should be incorporated into the home page.

Sorry, that got a bit longer than I expected. Anyway, feel free to take a look and let me know what you think. Thank you! And be nice!! I'm doing this all alone.

It looks like you could do a few things to your website:
    1) make a optin list (aka use an AUTORESPONDER) instead of just giving them a free gift, you want people to sign in for there free gift. (name and email)
-after you get a list you can grow a relationship with your customers and then you can sell them high end products. By the way you can get an autoresponder at aweber.com or you can use it through my affilaite link if you want:
aweber.com/?355290 Just ad http:// (I'm not trying to sell you on it but if you want one aweber.com is the best place to get it)

    2) Your title needs a little work, yes, to tell you the truth it is dull. (when people look at affilaite sites they are asking themselfs, "what's in it for ME?" just think about that.

    3) Who are you talking to? Who are you trying to sell to? What do you want from people when they go to your website? How can you get them to do what you want? Answer these questions and you will be ahead of the game.

    4) look how I did one of my old blogs: SpeedThrough as you can see it is a lot more collorful. (not to say that all website needs to be collorful) just look at your competition and see how the did there websites, do the same!

    5) you are doing great so far keep up the good work! if you have anymore questions, email me at mr.alexanderjohn@gmail.com and I will be happy to help!

Thanks a lot for your response. And your honesty. The more I learn about marketing, the more I'm understanding that you can't just slap stuff on a site and expect it to entice people. You have to draw them in.

I have an optin list..but I have the signup form for that included in the sidebar of the blog section. You're right though, I should attach the free ebook to that as a way to get people to sign up.

My main problem is that because I'm not good at site design, I buy a theme that I like, and sort of build my site around that. Theres another theme that I've seen that I think will be of much better use to me...I'm just reluctant to shell out the money..I don't want to change my mind again after that and decide that I like something else.

      Again, thanks for your tips!

I Like the color combination used. However i feel the website is a bit slow.

Also I guess you can put some keywords on the images Alt tag for getting better search results.

    hope this helps.

SpeedThrough. I'd edit your post and take out your affiliate link if I was you. If someone reports you, you will be banned from the forum.

Just giving you a heads up.

I like the theme and the colors. I think it is suitable and looks quite decent.

I think it's good enough for the basics and mostly I would just worry about adding more content.

You've just taken a look at the changes I made. I forgot to come back here and thank everyone for their comments thus far. I made the decision to go ahead and change the site, so I'm MUCH happier with the layout now.

Thanks again for all of your feedback, guys.

        Hiya

I really like the page, but you should definitely have an additional element which we see first, ie a squeeze page. As already pointed out, this is to harvest email addresses so you can entice people back to your service with follow up emails.

IMers have a bit of a love hate relationship with squeeze pages as they are a proverbial cul de sac when it comes to a web site with no where to go, but at the same time its great because you get to provide quality content, that is the free gift, without immediately providing a service and appearing like a business. slowly factor in your business strategy whilst nurturing your relationship with your list.

Also, don't give away all your secrets staright away, as this will make people want to return and find out what else they can discover which eluded them on the previous occasion.

        does this help

        best wishes

        Neil
