I've been having this questions for quite a while now, Im always using joomla and why with most of the templates as you install them the flashy header never appears and the top menu as well, for example lets take a look at this template

Willkommen auf der Startseite

provided by More Than 3100 Free Joomla CMS Templates all for free, but whenever I download it and install it there isnt the top menu and the flashy header or whatever you call it are not there? Same thing with most of them. Any advise? Thank yoU!

    Hi smolodoy,
Are you saying the template is not showing at all, or does it show but doesn't look how you want it to?
Forgive me if you've already done this: When you install the template in joomla, have you made it the default template in extensions/template manager?

    Best Regards,
    Mark

Yes I did, what doesnt work is the flashy header/slide show that you see on that template and thats how it is with almost all of them.

It's because you have not published any modules to those positions in the template.

You can view the module positions by going to template manager and selecting your template, then clicking "preview' button at the top.

This will show you the names and locations of your various module positions.

For example, the menu that is absent is probably because you have not published a menu module in the proper module position.

Most joomla templates have the menu in either "user3" or "menu" or "topmenu" positions.

So here's how to publish a module into the positition so it shows on the frontend:

Go to the module manager and see if there is a menu module anywhere. If not, click the "new" button to create a new module and select the menu module type.

Then open the menu module and select on the right which menu to show.

Select on the left to "publish", don't display the title, and select which module position to display the menu in using the dropdown.

Then click save and you will have published the menu module and it should be showing on the frontend.

      Hope this helps!
      Jason

Many template makers for joomla put extra modules into the templates to fill them out, like a demo etc.

You will have to find out which slideshow module they used, or just use a different one and publish that module to the header position etc.
