What exactly is Joomla? And how is it different to Wordpress?
Is it easy to use (like wordpress) or do you need some special knowledge?

Thanks

Joomla is a very user friendly and extendable framework for building and managing your site where Wordpress is basically a way to manage a blog.

Joomla has thousands of plugins that extend the platform from just a article publishing platform to a website with hundreds of possible functions.

Joomla has a larger and more active development community, more plugins, and more possible uses than any CMS, that's why it's the best. Period. LOL I take my joomla seriously, can u tell?

Not sure what you are asking? But if you are asking what is the different between Joomla and ASP.NET - I cannot really compare... Joomla is written in PHP and gives you a very good CMS out of the box where ASP.NET is just the web scripting language.

I want to compare both of them in terms of coding... I know its in PHP. I just got what I wanted. It provides everything out of box and in ASP.NET, we have to code everything on our own. Thanks

joomla = bloatware, its slow, and has more lines its database then just about any other content management system

woordpress = streamlined, slim, trim, and does exactly what its supposed to.

No wordpress don't do always what you have supposed to do.. There tons of things you can't do with wordpress unless you're a programmer, have too much spare time, write custom code and make plugins, plugins and plugins to turn wordpress as you want.

Sure if you're going to do blogging and simple site then wordpress is better, fast and easy... but when it comes to functionality. Joomla lead the way all other CMS. You will find alot of components, modules and plugins. free/paid.. and done your site in days without writing any custom code or order anyone to write custom plugins for you.

Joomla is not the leader of all other CMSs, that probably goes to Drupal. Joomla has more plugins then a lot of other systems, but a lot of those plugins are not secure.

A couple of years ago, the joomla site had plugins for people to download that had known security issues. But for some reason the joomla developers did not remove the plugins.

Yea sure, install joomla on your site, install some plugins and hope that your site does not get hacked.

Joomla updates breaks certain plugins - this has happened to me several times. Its not like wordpress where a plugin rarely gets broken.

Lets be sure to mention the joomla GPL debacle a couple of years ago - where the joomla developers did not want any commercial software connected to joomla. This made joomla lose support from a lot of the GPL community. And its the reason why the SMF forum removed its smf-joomla bridge. And its probably the reason why joomla switched back to php for its support forum software instead of SMF.

Asking for help in the joomla support forums is a nightmare. You can do a search, find a thread that has a link to another thread where the answer is "supposed" to be, which only links to another thread, which links to another thread, which links to another thread,,,,,,,. In other words, the support forums are not very helpful. I posted questions in the joomla support forums 3 years ago - and they were never answered.

        Database tables:

44 - The last time I installed joomla, that is how many database tables it created.

14 - is how many tables wordpress has in my database.

Developer / project leader turn over - and this is probably one of the biggest issues.

Wordpress - the same core developers have been leading the project for years.

joomla - developers come and go, a new project leader is announced from time to time. Developer turnover also leads to poor code quality.

Wordpress has a clear leadership and a clear direction the project is heading.

I quite agree with the comment here. I started building sites with Joomla just because of its beautiful themes. Other than that if you want to built a complex sites with joomla you had to know about programming. Thats the reason why Drupal is my first choice. But if you have a small project your best bet would be either Wordpress or Joomla.

I do agree with you in some points.. like security issues in extensions and getting help from joomla forum sure is a nightmare. i don't even remember if i get a proper reply on forum and i posted alot of topics there and i already agreed that wordpress is faster than joomla

about database tables.. lets see. new IPB forum installation had total 121 tables.

but its just that wordpress is so simple that's why it has on 14 tables with new installation. i mean if you compare backend and other different functions. there is alot of difference. still i think joomla tables are little bit much. but i couldn't agree with you that it should have same numbers of tables as wordpress.

i do like both scripts.. when it comes to blogging. i always choose wordpress. even though joomla had options for blogging and new K2 component is very good with alot of features but wordpress is all the way. but when it comes to complete site with different functions, community, integrated forum, reviews, gallery etc.. then i prefer joomla than any other CMS.

by the way. i also tried Drupal.. but i find joomla better. well. its all up to personal choice.

Wordpress is a bit easier to use, but you can do much more with Joomla. Wordpress is great for a blog or a simple site. If you want anything more then go with Joomla. I know you can do loads of things with Wordpress too, but if you are a programmer you can do loads of things with Notepad and in this case you are probably not asking questions which one is better . So if you want to develop a site that includes directory, shop, community, blog, forum, Q&A...etc, choose Joomla.

Joomla is an award-winning content management system (CMS), which enables you to build Web sites and powerful online applications. Many aspects, including its ease-of-use and extensibility, have made Joomla the most popular Web site software available. Best of all, Joomla is an open source solution that is freely available to everyone.

If you are asking "What IS Joomla" then you are at the very beginning of a learning curve.
Joomla is not at all easy for the inexperienced end user to get to grips with. If you are an experienced web designer you take your knowledge for granted and can quickly get to grips with different Content Management Systems because you are approaching with a back catalogue of knowledge.

However put simply, Joomla enables you to build a website through an admin backend that you access online. You will not need website design software to make your website nor will you need an FTP programme.

On the other hand the WordPress user admin area is much more user friendly for the end user and a professional looking website can be achieved within a very short space of time.

I would recommend WordPress as a place to start if you are new to the very idea of Content Management Websites. Once you have used Wordpress for a while, Joomla won't seem so alien in concept.
