Hello Everyone,
I really need to assistance uploading a pdf file to my hosting account. Basically I just want to have a simple link that someone can click on and the document will open. I know its simple but I'm not sure how. I tried using filezilla to upload the pdf file BUT I haven't had much success.

When I open filezilla and enter the host(my website) then my username and password from my hosting account right? Everything is fine and I connect to my hosting account.

After I upload the pdf I cant get a simple link like mywebsite.com/ebook.pdf

instead its something more like ftp://keith00@mywebsite.com/public_html.myebook.pdf

And when I paste the url into my browser it doesnt even open up the file.

Guys how can I create a darn download link for my pdf ebook.

Please be detailed as possible I dont want to bug anyone because I misunderstood lol. Thanks in advance

The public_html directory is the root of your website. Anything in this directory is accessed by going to http://yoursite.com.

If you upload the PDF directly to public_html then it will be accessed at http://yoursite.com/myebook.pdf

If you create a directory called "book" in the public_html directory and upload your PDF there then the URL to access it would be http://yoursite.com/book/myebook.pdf

    Hope that makes sense

Bill is right. Your FTP and your URL are going to be two separate addresses. But for the future, everything up to and including the "...public_html." in your FTP address is your site domain (mysite.com).

So if you uploaded the pdf to a folder on your hosting account titled "files" the FTP would read ..."public_html/files/ebook.pdf while your URL would be mysite.com/files/ebook.pdf

The easies way my friend contact your Hosting company, so far the process you are doing is fine and what the guys are telling is what exactly you did. Hostgator has a good customer service and you can get ride of the headaches if you contact them directly to point out the problem

try check on your folder and file permission.

you can check folder permissiom by right click on your folder where your pdf reside. It should be something like 644 or 755 and your pdf file inside the folder should be at least 644 for other to read. If still can't access from your browser try change it to 755 for your pdf file.

          hope this help.
