domain name seo tactics

Hey Team,

Just a quickie about domain names, If i do some keyword research and find something of interest ie something i feel i can rank for and get into the top 5 for that keyword, BUT then when i go and check out the exact keyword as a domain and it has already been taken, where do we stand in terms of google or general seo if we just have it but with hyphons.

The thing is if for example i wanted mylittledoodah.com BUT it was gone so i registered my-little-doo-dah.com instead, how does google judge that domain when someone searches for....... my little doo dah ?

Is it just the same in terms of the keyword being in the domain etc or do the hyphons have an affect on how it is ranked?

    Using hyphen in domain is a common. It is not harmful to your google ranking. Sometimes if complicated words used in domain might confuse Google crawlers about your main keyword. In that case your hyphen helps crawlers. Only problem using hyphen in domain is it is hard to type or hard to remember, but most of us did not type domain names regularly. We just 'click' link or bookmark website. So, There is not much harm in using hyphen.

      I would love to hear opinions on this subject, as well. In some cases using hyphens doesn't seem to hurt Google ranking, but I have built one site where it seems to have caused Google to ignore the site, while it is first page Bing and Yahoo.

    You have the options of registering .net, .org or .info.
    Forget about that have to be "just" .com.
    All the others do work just fine.
    Last but not least, use the hyphens and redirect it to the
    selected extension. I know, will cost you an other $ 8.00.
    Now the issue is, you have to choose doing business with
    your pocket or your brain.
    Like anything else, everything end up in the money line.
