Tooltips and page loading...

I've got a page with a list of product features and I'm using "tooltips" to add descriptive notes to the items in the list. The tooltips actually make up the bulk of the textual content of the page but they are text only, no images.

The page is loading slowly but I can't believe that mere text (unless a massive amount) will slow down page loading. The page has a few background images but they are all tiny in terms of data.

The rest of the pages in the site, even with way more content and big images, load more quickly.

So what could be causing this? Is there something about tooltips that makes them hard to load? The tooltip uses a background image but it's only about 9 kb.

Thanks for any suggestions.

How are you setting the background image of the tool tips? I hope you are using CSS and creating a class with the image? Do all tooltips use the same image?
