How can I learn wordpress quick?

Those great sites you see, the ones that don't look like blogs? Most of them were made by people with years or even decades of design experience. Practice and keep practicing.

Check out some tuts+ tutorials, read design guides and posts. Create a swipe file for inspiration. Design, Design and keep designing.

You could always hire someone to design it for you.

If you find a site that is really well designed and you would like something similar, then take a look at the footer, as there is usually a designer credit. Otherwise, ask the site webmaster who designed the site. They may be happy to share!

Learn some CSS and PHP.
Photoshop is a must for creating pretty stuff. Illustrator helps.
Now perform two Wordpress custom theme tutorials. Just follow them along step by step.

You should now be able to create your own themes. It'll take time to learn the details, but you can patch those in later.

This can be done in under a week, if you're desperate and have the time and focus. Otherwise expect to complete it in a month, if you're treating it like a hobby.

Why is it that every time I say I do not use any graphic program because I do NOT want to learn any of those (or even when I am looking for somebody to pay them for their work) somebody feels their duty to tell me to learn how work with graphic editors...?

So, just to make it clear: I have NO intention to learn any of those. I don't need it. I don't want it. Don't waste your time telling me where to get tutorials. I don't own graphic programs, I will not buy any of them and I will never learn them. I am completely happy in this way

Curiously, why DON'T you use graphic editing programs? Do you outsource it? Buy graphics?

Yes you are right. weebly dot com is one of them. this website is amazing. you can learn about designing form this website without learning photoshop. you can add your own pic in the header of the theme or adding a big down arrow over the optin box.

I found youtube a great place for tutorials with wordpress. I just started my website 2-3 weeks back and it seem really easy to add things to it. I just have to create the content now :-(

One solution although not free is to get a months subscription to lynda.com. Its an online video tutorial service and its really affordable at $25. You get access to Wordpress tutorials and hundreds more applications.

simple, all u have to do are:
- download newest XAMPP & install it
- download newest wordpress version
- put the wordpress files into htdocs under xampp dir
- create wordpress database, install wordpress
- install theme and learn the wordpress codex

Plenty of tutorials if you have the time to learn them
The important thing is what is the point of having a blog if no one ever sees it?
So then you have to learn onsite and offsite seo (search engine optimization).
Then find multiple ways to gain traffic such as social bookmarking etc etc.

The important thing is google (80%+) search engine volume loves.
1.Quality content.
2.Relevant content.
3.Surfer viewing pleasure.
If I was starting out with no funds I would have to accept I can only cover one of these bases.
So I would concentrate on quality, relevant content.
Build it and they will come just dont work.
I would get a .info domain to practise on and turn the robots off.
When I got the blog looking exactly how I wanted it I would then replicate it or just upload the database to a new .com
Or outsource all this.

There are lot of ebooks, videos available on the net. Search in warrior forum you can find hell lot of information on wordpress.

Learn Wordpress quick ? What exactly you're looking for ? Installation and Maintenance ? or Development theme?

My blog ( dhanasekar dot net) is running in world press, to design this simple theme it took two to three hours for me.

Just google for guides and tutorial to learn wordpress.. it is the most simplest way to create greatest site.. It will not much time to learn.. Everything is self explanatory ...

Just purchase a good lucking premium theme related to your and you are good to go..

The way i learned wordpress was from a guy who created a wordpress tutorial site featuring around 60 very easy to understand tutorial videos.
There are around 20 free videos which teaches all you need to know to get started.
I actually wrote a review of it here.

I think the answer you're looking for doesn't really exist.

Aside from the fact that 'easy', or 'fast', or even 'cheap' are all relative terms.. my expectation, or perhaps my assumption, is that you just want to get up and going right way.

If that is the case, and if you don't have coding/design type of experience already, then for all practical purposes I'd say the correct answer to give you for this question is simple: there isn't anything like that available.

Thing is, lots of people are going to say how easy Wordpress is or how great whatever product is. But they do all take a bit of learning, getting used to, etc.

Then if you decide you want certain design elements that aren't in your current theme, you're left with choices like:

1) Learn how to create your own theme or edit the existing them, which is of course not at all practical for someone who may not have prior coding/design experience (unless you have the the time, desire and resources to go ahead and start gaining such knowledge and experience)

2) Find a new theme and cross your fingers - keep 'em crossed! - because, chances are, you're not going to find out the next 'gotcha' with your new theme before you spend time with it. (This usually becomes a stumbling block where people are always looking for the next 'perfect' theme, because nothing is just right. You might even come to a forum and ask for suggestions, but it can be hard to get a specific answer that fits well with a specific question/problem.. Google and trial and error are often way more valuable honestly)

3) Find something that works pretty well. Learn the ups and downs. Design around them. If you don't already have the resources, or the willingness, to outsource tasks now - you may in the future.

Just get up and running. The sooner you generate revenue, the sooner you can start leveraging those resources to catapault ahead with this or other future projects.

Brad, most of the these you spoke of can be accomplished in any decent theme.

They will have options for doing what you want. The more you pay for a theme, the more flexible they generally are. A LOT of people are using Flexibity3 as it will do much more than most free blogs and even comes with a bit of support. Though you'll get much more support if you get the guys premium versoin, Flex3 has a upgrade but I'd skip that and jump for either Flexibity3 free of Flexsqueeze.

To make it look really great, you need to know CSS and know it very well. PHP helps some too, both give me a headache.

I personally prefer watching videos to learn. I just followed along until I got the hang of it. One thing leads to another and soon enough you look back and say, "Hey, I got this thing!"

As was said earlier, the "doing" is the learning!

the things you want to do is not possible alone by learning wordpress, instead you need to lear photoshop, dreamweaver and PHP. And the best way to learn is to learn from Google.

There is no such thing as learning anything "quick". To get started simply open up any WordPress theme and start from the first line of code and work your way down, understanding what each function/piece of code does.

That's the only way.

I would say just to install a WP blog on a subdomain and mess around with it just by doing your own tweaking. You're going to retain a lot more knowledge when you're hands on than just trying to cram in a lot of information and then go back to do it.

However, if you're looking for resources than I would say anything in the Tuts+ network.

The quickest way to get a half decent looking site is to buy a premium theme that almost looks how you want your site to look. You can then learn how to do a few minor edits such as adding your own logos, opt in forms etc and gradually build upon it until you have something you are proud of... or quite often start over with a better idea of how things work instead

If you want to get your hands on themes that are not as widely used and can still gain some distinction then themeforest.net has some great examples.
