I tried Aweber for my forms and autoresponder on my html sites but since I only got two subscribers the first month, I decided to just use a free contact form. The one I'm using just has a button labeled "get your free report" on my page which when clicked takes the visitor to another page to fill out the form instead of having the form on the page.

Anyone see a problem with this type of form vs having the form on the page?

Thanks for your insights.

PS on my wordpress sites I just use contact form 7.

I would imagine that there is a better solution. It seems to me that your conversion rate could be hurt if people don't understand they will be taken to a second form.

From what I understand, if you don't label a form correctly then it's more likely that a user will stop the process. Anytime a user interacts on the site, it's an opportunity to either build trust and rapport or vice versa. If they think they are about to download a report, but instead get taken to another form...well what would you do? Personally the info would have to be incredible to make me want to continue the process.

If at all possible I would try to use an inline form. If it's not, then I would try to label the button that takes them to the form as such "Click here to view our opt-in form" or "Start the signup process".

      I think it'd work fine.

Of course, the more clicks, the more chance of missing some prospects, but this isn't too big a deal.

My suggestion would be to make sure the page where they opt-in is the same URL and design scheme as the originating site.

I'd also say something like "Hey $name, Your report is ready, tell us where to send it." Something that let's them know they'll get it immediately.

      Good luck,
