If i install wordpress manually via my hosting provider, does that mean that any plugins i decide to use on my site also have to be installed manually?

Cheers,

If by "manually" you mean via FTP instead of using the upload feature within the WordPress Dashboard then the answer is "No, you can install them any way you like".

The only consideration is that you provided suitable write permissions to the wp-content/plugins folder during your initial installation.

The same holds true for themes.

      Thanks Bill,

Yes I installed via FTP (FZilla).

To be honest I know nothing about write permissions, and did not adjust the wp-content/plugins folder during the installation...., if i try and intall a plugin in the WP CP and it works... would that mean that i can assume evertything is OK and no action has to be takenin adjusting the wp-content/plugins folder?

      Thanks,

If you can install a plugin from the Plugins > Add New page, then you're good to go. If you do get an error message, note exactly what it says and post back here.
