The answer depends on your ultimate goal. Do you want to build websites for yourself or do freelance web design? Are you looking to eventually get a job in web design?

Excellent advice. Organize yourself and don't get distracted! Learn one thing at a time and learn it well if you go back and forth you will only confuse yourself.

Are you looking to become a designer, or just built websites? If your goal is to build good looking sites, then you don't necessarily need to learn how to code.

WordPress, Blogger, and even FrontPage are all good services that let you build with little coding knowledge. Any HTML or CSS you pick up along the way would be icing on the cake so to speak.

You may learn HTML at very first. then CSS cascading style sheet, I begin like that from ten years ago. w3schools is very useful refrence and has free tutorials and documentations.

you should hire a teacher to learn to develop new website

Once you start building Web pages, you will want to learn the languages that build them. HTML is the building block of Web pages. CSS is the language used to make those Web pages pretty. And XML is the markup language for programming the Web. Understanding the basics of HTML and CSS will help you build better Web pages, even if you stick with WYSIWYG editors. And once you're ready, you can expand your knowledge to XML so that you can handle the information that makes all Web pages function. The information on this page will help you learn the languages that make up the Web.

Adobe Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Microsoft Expression Web and iWeb (for Mac) are a few good options if you want to go that way. You'll learn to create websites but there still will be lots to learn if you want to produce professional and clean websites.

--> First thing you'd have to learn HTML
--> The next step is learning some programming language so that you can create dynamic and complex websites
--> learn SQL (or database stuff) to be able to create complex interactive websites.

It is a good feeling to get your first site up and running. A easy way to start is with wordpress. You will then get the feeling if you enjoy the process or not. If you then want to pursue web designing, then it will be a good idea to learn all the things the other warriors suggest. In my opinion, just get going. Build your first site, using wordpress or any something likewise. You can build very good looking sites like this...

Just get going.... and take it from there...

To design great looking websites, all you need is to get the hang of using WordPress. No other technical knowledge is necessary. More serious users may learn HTML or PHP coding.
