Website or Blog?

I plan to start a downloading site that will offer links to download various stuff. The problem here is that I've never had anything but a wordpress blog. Hosting isn't a problem... Can anyone suggest what might be good for such a site? :confused:

    Aren't blogs websites, too? Just a special kind of...

    If you put up content to the www = that's a website. It doesn't matter what kind of CMS (content management system) you were using.

    If you don't want to use WP (which, in your case, would probably be an overkill) you can just make plain old html files.

      You can create what you want by using Wordpress as well. Just search for link directory plugin in google and you will have access to a lot of plugins which can do what you are looking for.

        yes a blog is a website. My reason for asking is would it be better for the main page of the website to be like a landing page where the visitor could choose an artist and album they wanted to download. Of course the download page would be content locked.

    Complete website is definately the go.

    Give Joomla! a go (free) it's easy to learn and there is heaps and heaps of free templates/components/modules/plugins you can use to make the perfect web site that can offer anything you can imagine.

    There is no real difference between a blog or a website but its template and ofcourse the content.You can create your website by using a WordPress and it would be easy for you as you have already worked in WorPress.

    I think indeed Joomla will give you the best result. If you combine it with DOCMAN component you will have a very good result. In the future if you want to sell the downloads you can combine it with virtuemart and have a complete payment system.

    Blogs are easy to build and in very less time. So go for blog save your time and money.

      You'll need to update the site quite often, probably daily... so definitely go with a WordPress theme.

      And don't forget to put those disclaimers that your site doesn't offer downloads, only links to other sites where people can download the stuff they're interested in.
