Create ad on my website?

Hey everyone. I have a blog that I would like to do some local advertising on. How would I create an ad on my page for that customer? I would like just a simple picture with some text next to it that I could throw at the top or on the side of my blog. Can you recommend a site/tutorial on how to create the image with text and also how to insert it using WordPress? If anyone would like to see a website that shows exactly what kind of ad I'm talking about then please PM me.

I would also like to use free software for creating the image/ad.

Thanks in advance,
Patrick

1. You can NOT use the PM feature until you get 50 meaningful posts...
2. The advertizer should provide the image and/or text - not you...
3. You can always place the image/text they give you in a plain Text widget in the sidebar of you blog (if you really have a blog on your own domain, you should know the basics about that thing before putting up ads!)
4. There are also plugins that could manage the payment/placement/tracking of the ads

P.S. Creating compelling visual ads (banners) is an art and science mixture... Most of us don't have it. I don't.

Thank you for the quick response Istvan.
1. I didn't know that I couldn't respond to a PM until I have 50 posts.
2. The advertiser(once I get them) will provide the image and text.
3. I don't know anything about plain text widgets. Do you know of a tutorial or a good site to learn about it? I really do have my own blog and I'm trying to learn the basics which is why I posted a question here. I'm obviously not going to try to get an advertiser anytime soon. I want to learn all I can before I try to do that.
4. Do you know the name of a good plugin?

Thanks again for your response,

Patrick

When you get the Ad you first would upload it to your site into your Media Library, in your dashboard Media - Add New

Plain Text Widgets are going to show up in your Dashboard under Appearance - Widgets. Simply look for the TEXT widget, hover over it and drag it over to your Side Bar. Click the little Down Arrow that appears to the right of "Text" and it will expand allowing you to enter HTML such as
Save and it's done.

or Get the plugin Max Banner Ads
