Another Wordpress Problem

I have been trying everything I can think of the correct this problem via the text align, font size, header size and just about everything else I can think of to get this text alignment problem solved when a category is clicked. (I'm using the WP theme Quentin - an older theme, but one that works (almost) for the website it's being used for.

Can someone take a peek and give me a suggestion as to how to fix the alignment problem?

Furniture – Ottawa Valley Antiques ~ 613 649 2093

Some of the text lines up perfectly, and other text is all messed up - and sometimes the messed up text is shorter than a longer title on the post above it. I M PIZZLED!!!

Edited to add: The text seems to line up properly in Firefox and Safari. It's all out of alignment in Camino and IE. I don't use IE, but the gentleman whose site this is does, and the text looks awful - same mess as it shows in Camino. Sure would appreciate some advice as to how to correct this. Perhaps the latest version of IE - anyone have to to do a test run and let me know? I have no idea what version of IE John is using but if it looks okay in a newer version I'll get him to upgrade.

    The "entry-meta" div (which contains all that stuff about posted in... comments...) if FLOATED left. See the stylesheet!

    Now if the float is not cleared properly - everything that comes after the float wants to go "up" to be glued on the right side of the left-floated element.

    In cases like this I, usually, add something like this to the stylsheet (if it isn't there yet)
    .clearer {clear: both;}

    and then just have something like <br class="clearer" /> after the loop or wherever is needed...

    Istvan: Thanks for your response!

    This is what I am seeing for the "entry-meta" div

    .meta, .entry-meta {
    font-size: 0.5em;
    color: #4D3B27;
    margin: 0 0 4em 0;
    padding: 6px 0;
    float: left;
    letter-spacing: 1px;
    text-transform: uppercase;
    }

    I tried adding .clearer {clear: both;} after the text-transform line and nothing changed.

    I have no idea as to where or how to add the <br class="clearer" /> after the loop.

    This stylesheet is very different from anything I have ever tried to edit before, so I'm feeling a bit baffled by all of it.

    This theme (other than this issue) is so perfect for what the gentleman whose site it is wants to use it for. I can't find anything similar, so I guess I'll have to suggest he purchase a custom theme if I can't get this fixed.

    It seems there are so few themes out there today with a simple layout like this with no header graphic and a clean post display area like this one has.

    Thanks again for your help. I'm still "pizzled."

    OK. You do NOT add that line to the .entry-meta class!
    It is a class on its own! = a totally new line at the end of your style.css

    Then figure out which template file is used for displaying the cat archive: according to the article Template Hierarchy in the Codex, it should be in this order:
    category-XX.php (XX being the cat ID#)
    category.php
    archive.php
    index.php

    and place the clearing br tag right after the closing of the entry-meta div

    Well, thanks again Istvan, but nothing has worked so far. I even removed the theme, downloaded and uploaded the theme again, started from scratch and its still doing it.

    I guess Quentin (and my brain...) is not wp 3.0.5. compatible. He has me defeated this time around.

    But thanks so much for your help. I really really appreciate it!

    Nononono... we don't give it up that easily

    In the category.php on line #13 change this
    <h2 class="entry-title">
    to
    <h2 class="entry-title clear">

    Nothing else is needed. It should work! Trust me.

      He is correct. Istvan it is very refreshing to see someone helping another and not allowing them to give up easily, very cool!

    Hi Istvan: It works great in Firefox (3.6.13) and I presume in IE too. However, Safari and Camino don't want to play and it's still out of alignment in them. I'm using older versions so that may be the problem.

    As long as it works in Firefox and IE that's tremendous. I don't think too many folks around here are using Safari or Camino, and if they are they will just have to 'deal with it.'

    Thank you so very much yet again.

    (Now how in the world that tiny correction could make so much difference is beyond me. But it did!!!!)

    Edited to add: When I edit source files I use the editor in Transmit, my FTP program. It doesn't give me line numbers. Makes it a bit frustrating, but the 'find' option picks up the code quite handily - otherwise I'd be counting lines forever and a day if the error was on line 128 or who only knows where else!
