"pop-up" how to Close it, wiithout closing everything?

hi warriors,

I've had this question years now!

An example, I'm on firefox, I go to a site, it loads and a "pop-up" comes up
Honestly with the way things can be disguised, I really don't want to click on the "pop-ups" "ok" or even the "x" in the corner of the pop-up to close it

I fear that I might actually install something or the like
as I know hackers these days can be very creative

BUT my prob is I have 10 tabs of other sites(I always have multiple tabs open, and don;t want t have to close everything!) that I'm on with that session of fiirefox, and I don't want to lose all those, and if I do a control w, or use the task manager, it shuts down firefox altogether, rather than that "one single tab"

is there any solution? because until I click the "ok" or the "x" it jamms me up and I can't do anything

thank you if you know how to work it!
(like in this case I am writing this without doing anything to that session of firefox, because I am able to open a new window, hence I'm writing this thread, but all sessions on that "window" all "tabs" rather are locked until I do something !

dano~

Install the Adblock Plus plugin for Firefox. Should prevent most popups from coming up in the first place.

Just click OK or exit out. If you want to post the website someone can probably look at it and further assess the site.

I think she's referring to web sites with popups in general. She's right; sometimes the "cancel" button can be a something else in disguise.

I'm sure it pains internet marketers to hear this, but installing Adblock will solve popup problems.

        thank you thomas

I was hoping that something would get me out of the current pop up that is still hanging on, on the other window I have open, so I don't seem to hear anything about a way to close that specific "tab" without affecting the rest of the tabs and sessions I have open within that window, so I may need to just go into the task manager and terminate it that way

thanks for the info about the pop up blocker, hate to take any more possible resources or load something that I really don't need...

Dano1981, if you running windows, just hit "Ctrl + Alt + Delete" then click the task manager. Click the processes tab, then right click the annoying popup and "end process". I do this at least twice daily for those tricky popups that try to lock you out.
On a rare occasion you may just shutdown the browser from the task manager but when it restarts shut down that open tab that had the sticky popup before it re-loads (assuming your not clearing your history and cookies on browser close)
          hope this helps

thank you very very muich david

I avoid using the task manager because it closes all sessions for firefox BUT Ive never heard or been aware that their is a specific "pop up" indicated in the processes that is not the same (again specifically) as "firefox.exe" itself...I will look next time to see if I do see a "pop up" option in the processes

            thanks very much david!
