    Hello, Welcome.

First you need web hosting and domain. Do you know how to do this?

Wordpress is very easy to install with MANY hosting plans. It comes with it.. all you do is going to the control panel (IE: cpanle) and Click on a couple buttons and done.

      Welcome

You need to be sure that you use a domain registration company for your domain and a DIFFERENT company to host your website.
Many registration companies offer hosting and many hosting companies also sell domains. The companies usually offer *Deals*

However, to protect your business NEVER use the same company for both domain registration and hosting

Here is a Cheat Sheet about it.

Why Use Different Companies for Domain Registration and Web Site Hosting? | surviveandconquercoaching.com

The Cheat Sheet is free but you'll need to join with the Free membership to access it... if you REALLY don't want to join, email me and I'll send you a copy.

You need to set up a domain and hosting. As the 2 warriors have mentioned above.

There is a guy on fiverr who will set up your site for you, install a theme, and plugins. If you need some help the first time.

    tribak: I will install WordPress + a theme + 3 plugins for $5 at Fiverr.com

    Hope this helps

I switched from liquid web to hostgator and within 30 days, I was getting database errors.

I just posted a new topic on this....

You are limited with hostgator and if your site gets busy, you're taking a chance the same thing will happen to you. See my post or PM me for more information.

        Hey, Welcome!

Wordpress rocks! And the easiest way to build a wordpress site for a very new beginner, is with a free account on wordpress.com

This will get you accustomed to the basics of wordpress and be functional NOW, so when youre ready to host your own site, you already know how to use it.

        A quick primer...

Pages show up in your menu bar. They are static (they dont move) Use pages for information about yourself, your services, your products.

Posts show up on your blog. On wordpress.com, your blog is always on the front page, and will show newest posts first. Post about things going on in your corner of the world, related to your topic. When you write about something relevant to what your selling, link to the page that sells that thing.

        Steps:

Go To: Appearance > Themes and pick a design. Quickly, this is a time waster if you let it be. I suggest iNove. Do a search if it isn't listed.

Go To: Pages > Add New and write out an offer for a product or service of yours, or an affiliate offer that you truly believe in. Pick a topic you know about, you'll have to talk about it, a lot.

Go To: Appearance > Menus. Type in a menu name, call it 'menu'. Then click Save Menu. Scroll down to pages (under custom links) find your new page, select the box and add to menu. click save menu again. Then under 'theme locations' pull down to 'menu' and click save. Your new page will show up in your menu bar now.

Go To: Apperance > Widgets. Drag a 'Custom Pages' widget into your sidebar. As you learn more about widgets, you can add stuff here. For now, this is good.

Start Posting! Post at very least once a week. Whatever you can think of that's quick, on topic, supports your product or service and is helpful to visitors. If/when you post something that you're proud of and really promotes your offer, make it sticky (it will always remain your first post on the front page) In your editor, on the right side, under publish, click on visibility > edit, and check the box that says 'Stick this post to the front page'.

Now go out and tell people about your site. There's a ton of information about site promotion here and all over the internet. But its best not to complicate things at first. A great way, very similar to what youre doing here... Go to a forum thats related to your product/service, and talk to people about the topic, your product, your website.

Those are your two jobs forever and always. Post and tell people about your site. Do it all the time.

NOTE: If for any reason, you change your theme and your site doesn't work, go back through the steps and set it up again.

I only use wordpress for the blog portion of my site because it is easy to spit out fresh content quickly. I would never be able to use wordpress for the rest of my site because of the lack of customization. Learn html and css if want to go into this 100%.

Actually wordpress is extremely customizable. You can turn it into anything by writing custom plugins.

Most likely there'll be a plugin for wordpress already (of what you need, the customization), because the community is HUGE.

You will need a domain. Buy the domain through Hostgator and buy hosting through them
Your domain will be ready for use in Hostgator
    Go to your Hostgator cpanel
    Click on Fantastico
Click on Wordpress and install a Wordpress blog
That's pretty much all there is to it.

You'll probably want to get a better theme than the default ones. There are free ones and premium ones.

  • I would recommend artisteer, it is only $50 but you can make awesome WP themes, and it is quick to learn it.

Also get a good hosting service and youtube how to install WP on your particular server.

I also use Artisteer and I bought the add-on, Templateer. Templateer adds incredible functionality and is worth every penny.

Both allow you to sell the themes, btw.

I have a reseller hosting account through HostGator and a domain account with godaddy which Im switching over to namecheap for personal reasons.

I have just installed XAMPP which allows me to setup a virtual environment on my laptop to setup without actually hosting it online which is something new I've been doing but I do like how it works. Virtualizes APACHE server and MYSQL.

I've been doing a photoshop to PHP design using the Starkers naked theme. I create a photoshop layout at least 900px X 1024px depending on how I'd like it to look then slice up the photoshop PSD to the sizes of images that I need when I use the Starkers naked theme.

This theme has only the wordpress guts so you will have to style it using CSS to get the top header, content area, sidebar and then finally the footer.

I like the way to widgets are already to go with this basic theme. Nice setup.

A while back I used this youtube video as a guide to get to know how wordpress themes worked and not I can setup the them itself in only an hour or so. These aren't my videos, just something I saw on youtube.

Its 12 parts but well worth the listen.

With the hosting, domain, XAMPP, naked Starkers theme, photoshop website payout and a 12 part video course, I have become fairly proficient at wordpress and how to work with PHP and CSS. You'll need an FTP client too. I also use Notepad ++ to edit PHP/CSS code etc.

This is basic stuff and there is alot here but well worth the effort.

    I recommend namecheap.com over godaddy.

As for hosting that totally depends on your preference.

The easiest way to start blogging with wordpress is to choose a host who offers a one click install of wordpress and install the software to your account. Most hosts also offer a free domain otherwise you would need to choose your domain name first.

Try and choose a domain name that includes a keyword that will be related to the content on your site a this will help get you more visitors from the search engines like Google.

Also try and choose a web host that provides a one click install of wordpress as this will be easier and faster especially if you don't have much technical experience with wordpress

If you choose to use wordpress with static pages rather than posts for blogging, this can easily be done as well

Firstly, you need to install Word Press in your web hosting server, so that you can use your own domain name for your website. Then you have to decide that what kind of web pages would be there on your site and how would be they organized.

Secondly, you have to be very conscious about the navigation bar of your landing page/home page. Generally, there should be approx. 6-7 main sections or we can say web pages on the website such as ?About us?, ?Contact us?, ?Services?, ?Testimonial?,? News and Events?, ?Blog?, etc.

Thirdly, you might like to choose different themes for your website rather than the default theme. In such case, it is better to hire Word Press designer for creating an outstanding word press design for your website. Well, this depends on your budget and requirements that what kind of theme you find best for your website. Make sure that the theme which you have selected must have the quality HTML markup along with search engine friendly attributes.

In order to create the static pages on WordPress CMS, you have to log-in into the admin panel of the website where you would find ?Pages? section on the left hand menu. There you can edit or add new static pages for your WordPress website.
