Domain Name Question

I'm wondering what will happen if I let my primary domain name expire, which I want to do. Will that screw up my addon domains? Since they are all aliased to the primary one.

No, I didn't do anything special. I just followed the cpanel instructions when adding them on.

Can I just set another domain as the primary domain. I was just going to try it...but I don't want to blow anything up?

    It shouldn't affect your add-on domains at all. They are just mapped to directories.

    I don't think you can change the primary, but I've not tried.

    You'll probably have a disaster on your hands. It's not simple to change the main domain name on most shared hosting setups, and most hosting companies won't do it.

    IMHO, it's worth the $10 or $15 a year to keep it, even if you're not going to use it.

    Unless, of course, you don't mind setting up your addon domains again from scratch on a new hosting account.

    EDIT:
    The 'disaster' comes from people not realizing that the entire existing hosting account gets deleted. People end up losing complete sites that may or may not be able to be restored from backups. It's just a can of worms if you're not prepared.

    I have changed my primary domain with Hostgator and never had a problem. If you are not sure, take help from a support member of your webhost.

    This is a question you should direct at your host. I don't think it will have any effect on your addon domains but you should double check with your host
