I use iThemes' builder it's not free but is amazing and really customisable, I haven't tried suffusion but keep hearing good things about it and it's free and is also very customisable

I like 2010 Weaver. It is based off of the default 2010 theme. It is easy to customize. You can choose you own color scheme, header and blog size.

I would say it is the closest I found to a premium theme.

My next choice would be Suffusion. It can be easily customized and you get
support.

I always choose my free themes from the WordPress Themes directory. Thisway I know they have good coding.

I am also a big iThemes Builder fan. When it comes to a premium theme, but these two themes have plenty to get you started and ready to use Builder.

  I nearly always opt for a premium theme but the best free wordpress themes I've found are on site5.com (see a couple of image screenshots below):
  
  They've got about ten Wordpress themes in total...and I would probably have paid for some of them if that's any help...

I try and use niche themes they have just about all the content you need look at wordpressmonster.co.uk see what you think it may help but still worth a look

I find you spend more time customizing free themes so I always opt for premium theme. You may spend a little $$ for it, but overall it saves me time which in the end actually saves me money

The Intrepidity theme is the best free theme I have found for Internet Marketing. It's fast, easy to add opt-in form and easy to change the look.

I'd like to ask some questions:

Do we have to use simplest themes if we want to make money from blogging?

Because I often see wordpress blog with very simple themes. Simple header, only text, no pictures, but have adsense or affiliates links.

Hi Richest. No problem simplest themes. But in good nick is add content. This is important. You have to pay attention to their own articles and content.

Darkhugs is correct about that Richest. That's the reason why you can see a lot of wordpress blog with simple themes that generate lots of traffic. Because whatever you do, people would go to your blog for the content and not the design. To put it simply, even if you're blog design is a crappy one but has a top notch content, people would always visit your site.

Woo themes have a few free Wordpress themes, they are very stable and have some nice SEO features. One resource I absolutely recommend is Smashing Magazines annual list of top Free Wordpress themes.

Blue Bubble which is on this list is my favorite. I've used it for several client sites

Depends on what you type of site you are looking for. I use themes from various theme shops based on the site's purpose.

FWIW, Gabfire just released SnapWire theme for Free not too long ago. It has a ton of options you can configure. (disclaimer: I have something to do with it)

If you are not serious about blogging then you can use free theme. But if make income income from you blog them I would prefer premium themes. As free theme I like wordpress themes by digital nature. As premium I like Thesis.
