Installing Wordpress on Hostgator

I just got set up with a domain and hosting and now I am being told using wordpress is the easiest way to get my site up and going. Looking around I found basic instructions on installing it through Fantastico. I selected my domain, left directory blank, and all that stuff, but I get an error when I try to install it.

You chose to install in the main directory of the domain forworkathomemoms.com, but there are conflicting filenames, therefore we can not proceed. Following filenames already exist in the main directory of the domain forworkathomemoms.com (path="/home/amandat/public_html/").You must manually remove these files before proceeding with auto-installation:
wp-admin
wp-content
wp-includes
index.php
license.txt
readme.html
wp-activate.php
wp-app.php
wp-atom.php
wp-blog-header.php
wp-comments-post.php
wp-commentsrss2.php
wp-config-sample.php
wp-config.php
wp-cron.php
wp-feed.php
wp-links-opml.php
wp-load.php
wp-login.php
wp-mail.php
wp-pass.php
wp-rdf.php
wp-register.php
wp-rss.php
wp-rss2.php
wp-settings.php
wp-signup.php
wp-trackback.php
xmlrpc.php

I went ahead and manually deleted those files and now when I go to where the wordpress admin cp should be I get an error.

Server Error in Application "PARK YOUR DOMAIN CMS"

HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found

The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

You had manually deleted all those files, right? Now let us know have you been reinstalled WP on forworkathomemoms.com?

You can solve the problem by doing the following:
    1. Install the WP in a directory. "wp" for example.
    2. Copy index.php and .htaccess from the "wp" directory to root.
    3. Open index.php and look for this code require('./wp-blog-header.php'); and replace it with require('./wp/wp-blog-header.php');
    4. In WP admin panel go to Settings > General and modify the Site address to point to the root.

    Hope this helps.

you problem come because you ALREADY have WP installed in your main domain. those you can't install it again. and that's why you should delete the file manually if you want to re-install the WP.

so, after you delete the file, REINSTALL wp with your fantastico. hope helps,

    regards,

    Amanda, hi,

If you're on Hostgator just raise a trouble ticket with them - seriously. They're very good and they'll get you sorted out properly and, most importantly, cleanly.

    Cheers,

    Martin.

I have to agree with Martin here. I have hostgator. They have excellent customer service and the techs are amazing. That way you will know what you are doing and much better how to work your cpanel.

Coming here is great and there is great advice here, but if you are new, you might want to know what you web hosting can do, plus is this leads to anohter question they should be able to help you with that as well.

      Hope this helps.
