I am trying to get a page in wp were only people who opt-in on my opt-in form can dowload my free mini e-book.

I think I may need a plug-in/widget to do this because I have made a Welcome - down load here etc. page, marked it private BUT it shows (obviously I guess) not found when I try it out in IE or Foxfire. I tried using the url in wp to where the pdf file is located, that works but people do not see the actual page. I have been trying to find something in the wp plug-ins page but as I don't know exactly what to search for - am going cross-eyed!

Please help I need something which just allows people who receive my Welcome Email (after double opt-in etc. am using an ezine hosting co.) to be able to download my e-book.

Also, should I have uploaded the e-book in zip format rather than .pdf ?

Please keep it all very simple, can alter html but after that I'm stumped! I am definitely 'technically challenged' oh yes, Mysql/apache do not work for me - spent a week trying to config. those - until a very kind Warrior suggested using an ezine hosting service Apparently they dont get on with Windows.

    One solution, though it's kind of round-about. Click on one of wordpress pages and save it to your computer. Next, add your thank you information in place of the "content" on that page. Then save it as something harder to figure out so people can not find it easy.

    Saving the WP page would give you the layout of your blog. For example, save your About page then replace only the about information/code with your thank you information/code, then save it with a odd name and upload. Done.

    Hi Mary, you don't need to save the page as Private you just hide it in your nav and also install drainhole plugin to hide the download link. Also remember to change your robots text to no index no follow. To do this easily just install the Platinum SEO plugin.

    Instead of making your page 'private' click on the 'password
    protect' option for the page.

    Then on your welcome email, just tell people to go to that pages
    url and enter the password. Add the password to your email and
    all is well.

    Thank you everyone I'm using the password protected at present, plug-ins are giving problems at the moment but have noted Sweet Jane's comment. Once we sort the IE screw-up (OMG IE is the pits) I can then probably get plug-ins to work properly.

    Alex 11 you will need to ftp your file to your hosting service. You will need to either get an ftp program like cuteftp or you will probably be able to ftp from whatever editor you have used to create your pages.
