I have a macbook pro.

I got it with the Creative Suite 5.

I have all the Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, After Effect, Dreamweaver, and every other one.

I am really interested in making websites.

Now I currently use Optimize Press.

But, I want to learn how to make websites....

so I want to learn Dreamweaver...but it seems so complicated.

How long does it take to learn Dreamweaver?

Its not as much as learning DreamWeaver, it is more learning HTML.

The Dreamweaver interface is by far the best for any HTML IDE out on the net. It is basically point and click, formatting etc.

Yes, there is a bit of a learning curve to design table layout html pages, but for the most part it is easy (atleast easier than photoshop).

Now, if you don't have knowledge in HTML and CSS, then getting your head around how everything works will be kind of hard. To get the full advantage out of dreamweaver, you should have a bit of knowledge in HTML/CSS.

Take a day to look through the W3 tutorials: HTML Tutorial

    Best of luck!

Underline this post and read, read and re-read it. Dreamweaver is a great app to learn and use, and it does allow you to do things quicker, but you need to understand the basics to get a feel for what you need to do. Dreamweaver 3 user from back in the day

there is always going to be something more you can do with it though. Its like asking "How long does it take to learn to use a hammer." You can hammer in a nail with a hammer with about 5 min practice, but it takes a bit longer to learn to use it to build a house.

    Good luck with it.

I only start with WordPress which is the easiest and nicest option for IM and SEO. If you don't have to much time to learn about the basic dreamweaver, there should be another choice. Thanks

Dreamweaver is pretty easy to learn.

It lets you edit as WUSIWYG, Code, or Split the screen and see both. The Split screen makes really easy to learn HTML because you can add something and immediately see the result of it.

I learned HTML in old HTML chats and through Geocities editor, which had no templates I remember. If I had what Dreamweaver could do I'd have picked up HTML much faster.

Its pretty easy to learn. You can follow the help and tutorials to learn most of its features within few hours. I used to use it a lot when I was doing web programming, now I don't have to because of wordpress

Thanks. I have heard about Lynda.com before.

I am actually thinking of doing a Dreamweaver course that costs $450.00, but maybe I will start with Lynda.com.

How long it takes you really depends... I started by teaching myself Dreamweaver and that took ages. Then I did a multimedia course and learnt more in a few months than I had taught myself in a year.

So at the very least, find a good Dreamweaver tutorial online for beginners and let it guide you. If you are seriously wanting to learn web design, it may be worth signing up for an actual course.

Lynda.com is excellent. If you're really serious and want to learn Photoshop and maybe even Flash since you have it, subscribe for a whole year with Lynda,

Dreamweaver will let you create exactly what you want unlike Wordpress which has its limitation in regards to web design.

It will definitely take a while to learn how to use Dreamweaver as there is so much to it. I knew basic HTML when I got DW a few months ago. I have found that when I want to do something that I don't know, I go to YouTube and type dreamweaver CS5, followed by what I want to know about and usually a list is displayed and I pick the one that most closely matches what I am looking for.

I recommend that you try getting hold of Joseph Lowery's Dreamweaver Bible. I used it at the time it was published for Dreamweaver 3 and I don't know how far he has updated it as we are now at DW CS5. It's a very long and comprehensive manual. It is really excellent and the best part is that it also teaches you HTML and CSS in clear, understandable language. Try Google for it.

I have also used the Lynda online tuts and found them very good.

I use DW extensively and also Wordpress, but I find WP far too limited if you want to add special features to your website. Limited may not be the right word, I just never learned PHP scripting.

I personally hate WYSIWYG editors because I feel I have no control of what I am doing. Hence, I use DW in codeview with my CSS styles displayed in another window. I can immediately see the affect of any changes I make in the DW window or in a browser window. But that's just my preference. However, you do need to get your arms around HTML and CSS. Apart from the basics, the HTML Positioning Model is fairly critical to understand. My twopence!
