Shorten Image Filename Path in Wordpress?

How do I shorten an image filename path in Wordpress so that it just shows something like

www.domain.com/image.jpg

instead of what it looks like currently, which is

http://www.domain.com/wp-content/upl...011/image.jpg?

You can use this..

<img src="<?php $upload_dir = wp_upload_dir(); ?>/2011/image.jpg">

You could alternatively use an FTP program and upload the image to your root directory. Handy for lots of images.

  That's ok for a couple of images, but kinda sloppy for hundreds of images, IMO.

You can also do it with a htaccess redirect.

RedirectMatch 301 ^/images/(.*)$ http://www.domain.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/$1

I think this is what you want.
