Adsense-friendly Wordpress Theme

I'm a newbie. I'd like to find a Wordpress theme that:
- can incorporate a main page blog and static pages
- is Adsense-friendly
- something that I can manage and update without a Ph.D. in engineering

I was looking at Socrates Theme. Is that something Forum Members would recommend? Any other options?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

I use the Flexsqueeze theme in 99% of my blogs. It's easy to use and is so configurable I can give all my blogs an individual look. As far as adsense is concerned it's a cinch to install

Thematic is pretty good if you want to customise a little.

Most themes inside of WordPress meet all of your criteria.

If you get a basic hosting account with Fantasico, it should have a WordPress installation tool to get you started.

Any blog that has a Text Widget will work for Adsense.

Take a look at CTR Theme. The ads rotate through predefined blocks so the pages change each time they load. The theory is that people tend to look past the ads, but by moving them you get their attention again.

I used to subscribe to a service that did that for us. They promised an increase in Adsense revenue for only 4% of what they generated for us.

Eventually, the service became free when Google bought the company.

They promised that they would test different formats to see what worked best on your site, then they would feed the best performing adsense blocks on your site, with some continuing rotation to discover what worked even better.

The did successfully rotate ads frequently.

They also promised that they only needed 10,000 page views to prove their value to us.

I gave them extra page views on my website and let it run several months, running it up to 100,000 page views, because I really wanted to see if extra time would improve their performance.

During that entire period, my adsense was performing at 50% of what it performed without them.

As a result, I am not sold on the theory of always changing ads.

Another thing to consider is "contextual linking", in which you do not use an image of the ad at all. Instead you hyperlink the text of your post/content and cloak the link using a WP plug-in. And the link takes them to your affiliate site.

I've never used Socrates so I cannot give you an opinion on them. I do however use Thesis and Flexsqueeze. Of the two Flezsqueeze is by far the simplest to use. You can change almost anything from WP's dashboard. Some of the things you can change.
    1. Choose a color scheme for your blog
    2. Choose from 8 designs
    3. Choose from several styles
    4. Choose blog and sidebar width
    5. Change Header and background images
    6. Choose blog and font colors
    7. Choose your menu buttons and where you want them to display
    8. As far as Adsense goes you can select where you want them to appear as well as size

I could go on and on, but the important thing is you need no html, php or css knowledge whatsoever to get it to do what you want it to do.

It even comes with it's own squeeze page templates built in which you can edit to produce very professional sales pages. I've used them successfully on my blogs.

One feature that I love about this theme is you can export your settings as a csv file. You can use this file to fix any problems you may have when playing with the settings or you can do what I do and design templates for use during special occasions like Christmas Halloween etc.

It's as tpw says. Most wp themes are adsense friendly. To make things quicker and easier to manage you can also install a plugin, for easy management.

Flexibility Theme is probably the best free AdSense theme out there at the moment, FlexSqueeze is their payed theme.

For payed AdSense themes I like Stallion Theme as a lot of thought has gone into it and it's very user friendly for marketers.

Having said that, I think that in the long-term Thesis or Headway are the best way to go as there's so much else you can do with them.
