Embedding Fonts

WEB DESIGN

Most of the time when I use non-standard fonts in my designs they are only small sections so I just use an image file, but for my latest site I've really got my heart set on using a specific font in the content, but I know must people won't have it installed.

A while ago I read about embedding fonts in CSS so that they are downloaded to the users PC along with the page, but at the time this had some major problems. Is there any way to use a non-standard font reliably?

It can be done.

But it requires a bit of work. And reliability across browsers has not been tested yet.

  As far as I know there isn't a way to do this very easily.
  
  I find that the best way to mix up the fonts within your designs is by using some form of accessible flash/image text replacement for the headings (e.g. sIFR), and then just sticking with the regular fonts for the main paragraph text.
  
  I know this isn't what you're looking for but though I'd make you aware of the text replacement tools that are out there in case you hadn't come across them yet.

  @BlueSquares - Thanks for the link. I'm probably going to test that method across a few browsers, I'll let you know the results if I do.

Try Cufón, a font replacement technique uses javascript and vector graphics to write fonts from a font file
