Hi,

I was just wondering, where do you guys get images for your website?

And where are the best free website for images, ones that dont cost a cent.

I use istockphoto.com They charge $3 or $4 for an image suitable for web display and have a huge selection of just about everything.

Unless you pay for an image or have explicit permission from the owner just about everything is copyright protected. This doesn't stop a lot of people from pinching images from directories like google images but it's not legal.

stock.xchng - the leading free stock photography site

Be sure to read their terms - some photos require express permission, others can just be used, typically with credit to the photo's source.

  Here's a list of 100's of 1.000's of Copyright free, Royalty Free and Public Domain Images, Clipart and such. Free for use in your commercial projects. Just be sure to double check Be sure and read the entire thread to learn the ins and outs about using these Free Resources. I posted this originally in the Main Discussion Forum in support of Warriors. Seems you guys need a hand over here as well.

Best free imaging site for me is Photobucket. As long as your account in photobucket is active, your pictures wont be deleted.

I sincerely apologise for not being able to help you straight away Oscar, but I still don't have enough posts to post links (grrrrrrrr).

However I see you have received a lot of help in the meantime. Quick glance of the replies, I have used and can recommend Flickr, Morguefile, sxc.hu as FREE and SAFE to use for both personal and COMMERCIAL purposes, you need not worry about copyright or Royalty Free implications.

Sigh, I don't get a lot of time to write but I will post some more links I have used as soon as.... OK?

Well, you got me there regarding the public domain images?
Quick Google reveals :

You are free to use them in your artistic endeavors, either privately or commercially. My only request is that you not sell or give away the images themselves either individually or as a collection.

Anyone care to elaborate on this?

I like xheader.com. Lots of contemporary headers with people. If you just want the image but not the whole header, just save it as a jpg and crop it in any photo editor. I use coffee cup image viewer cuz it's sooo easy to use and free, of course. You'll have to register xheader to unlock the images.

I use Wikipedia - but you have to READ the LICENSE. Some of the pictures are public domain, some require attribution. Most of them, though, are free for use with small restrictions (like the attribution).

Just make sure you check the licenses (on everyplace listed above, not just Wikipedia).

  Freddie, when dealing with attribution I usually tread very carefully, I contact the creative owner/author and ask for clearly specified instructions, even if it is just something as simple as where to place the attribution link. There is nothing worse than spending time and effort promoting, using tools such as these, only to learn later that you have copyright issues. It can turn out to be very costly.
