Ah ha!!! You compare front page with dream weaver???? OMG... They are miles apart... At least you should have compared Microsoft Expression Studio with Dream Weaver. That might be a good competition tough!! But what ever too comes in dream weaver will win the race. But, It actually depends on what you are trying to design. DW is a tool capable of doing any thing for you!! But front page, you can go for simple and basic html pages with it!! It actually depends on your need!!!

Dreamweaver is, but requires some knowledge. Why don't you start with Wordpress?

Because it is NOT a design tool. Period. IT is a CMS - despite what many people think.

I got rid of Frontpage and bought XsitePro. It has a simple user interface, pre-made templates and lot's of cool stuff that you can add to a web site with a couple of clicks. Easy to learn and much easier than Dreamweaver.

    Give it a look.

I have Dreamweaver and it appeals to new and advanced users. Definitely Frontpage is out of the window. It belongs to the Geocities era.

      A free alternatives is Kompozer.

I've heard good reviews about XsitePro and it's in my Buy Next list.

    Self written code the best...

If you are spending time to learn something, learn from scratch instead of using programs like Dreamweaver or whatever suggestions mentioned here.

Dreamweaver is industry standard. Stay away from Microsoft Frontpage which always adds in extra code.

Wordpress is your Champ - without a doubt, I've never faced a project that can't be handled by Wordpress. As noted previously it is a content management system, not a design tool, but it can be molded to suit any design very easily.

Can I ask what kind of site you are hoping to develop?

Dreamweaver is great and I have used it for many years. However, I have been using Expression Web recently and find it just as powerful - Try some trial downloads of both and see which you prefer!

If you just want to build sites that look pretty and do not have dynamic content I would use Dreamweaver. If you would like to become an expert in all phases of web site design, you can learn HTML, CSS, SQL, PERL, PHP, ASP, JSP for free at w3schools.com. When you learn how to code in HTML and then view the bloated HTML code that is put out by Frontpage or Dreamweaver you will find that Dreamweaver is much better than Frontpage.

Definitely use Photoshop for the design phase. If you're new to photoshop and turning a design into an actual site, be sure to watch some YouTube tutorials on using slices. When you master slices and understand how to program with divs instead of tables, you'll be able to spit out squeeze pages and minisites superfast.

When it comes to the programming side, Dreamweaver is the industry standard. With that being said, I've recently been using PHP Storm (not only for PHP) and it has a lot of incredible features (better auto-complete, etc.) that help you program significantly faster.

So whether you are trying to launch your own site, or build one for a client, time is money and the better the tools you have, the more time you save, the more money you make.

    Jarrod

P.S. Frontpage adds unwanted code to your files. I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.
