Multi e-commerce store advice

Hi guys,

Just wanting your advice on setting up a site with multi e-commerce stores on it for local businesses. I'd like to use WordPress, but would also like it to be simple for people to create their own stores in - like ebay or etsy.com.
Am I going to have to get it custom built, or are there ways to do it with existing WordPress functions, plugins etc.?

    I have to be honest, I don't see you doing this with a pre-built ecommerce system. It sounds like you'll need custom development. I just haven't seen anything out there that will allow that level of complexity. Am I wrong? Anyone?

    You may want to check out magento. Depending on your client's budget, this may be the best option. Your other option is custom development, as brianman has said.

    I would say if you consider yourself techie and have the patience to learn, Magento is hard to beat these days - and it's open source and free.

    I'd go for something like this and keep the investment low to start.

    Hi Sissy, as Gurujyot mentioned, Agriya have a merchant marketplace that works a lot like etsy.com, it will save you several thousand dollars compared to if you were to get it custom made on a site like scriptlance.com
